The long-awaited release of the two invaluable Wings documentaries, "ONE HAND CLAPPING" and "THE BACKYARD," has been further refined and upgraded! Last year also marked the official release of the Wings documentary "ONE HAND CLAPPING." The footage, capturing the newly reborn Wings, undergoing their first lineup change, recording a mix of old and new repertoire at Abbey Road Studios, was condensed into a 53-minute piece for television broadcast. However, director David Lichfield shot the footage on videotape, but lacked the equipment to edit it, thanks to the then-newly released portable U-matic. Instead, he converted the footage to film and edited each camera angle. This resulted in a dramatic loss of image quality, and no one offered to use the completed footage. This ultimately led to "One Hand Clapping" becoming a famously shelved video for many years. However, the finished footage itself had long been leaked, and was well-known among enthusiasts. Officially, a version with nearly identical quality to the leaked footage was quietly included on a DVD accompanying the "Band on the Run" archive collection. It wasn't until last year that a remastered version from the film was finally released. However, even that was only available in theaters for a short time and on satellite broadcasts in the UK and Japan, making viewing more or less impossible. Despite last year's unusual release pattern, "One Hand Clapping" never made it onto a video disc. Now, we're releasing it on DVD! Based on the Japanese broadcast version, which achieved a high bitrate, and the UK broadcast version, with no 15kHz audio cut, this release captures the best of both worlds, delivering the best version of both video and audio. Rather than simply transferring the broadcast to DVD, the disc has been corrected to remove the fading that often occurs with old film footage. Even the footage seen in theaters, remastered, had deteriorated to the point that Paul's face appeared flushed, making a significant difference. The color noise inherent to the original video format, which remained unresolved for this release, has also been removed, improving the noisy color bleeding throughout. The audio recorded at Abbey Road Studios has also been newly remixed, but for some reason, Linda's keyboards on "Jet" sounded louder, resulting in a somewhat unbalanced mix. This time, the mix has been replaced with a standard stereo mix by Geoff Emerick, a long-time favorite among enthusiasts. Furthermore, the entire film was demixed using MAL software, and the interview audio that overlaps with the songs was remixed. However, the sound of Jeff Britton's drums during the segment focusing on him in a judo uniform was extremely quiet, so this has been replaced with the original mono audio. Other issues that were overly dramatic, such as the voiceover swaying between "Jet" and "Soily" when calling out to Geoff Emerick, have also been corrected. This was also a noticeable issue with the current release. Since the theatrical release features Dolby Atmos audio, "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" was in stereo, with Paul's voice swirling around in circles. This unnatural sound was replaced with the standard stereo remix from the album. All of these issues that were raised during last year's release have been addressed and the DVD is ready to be released. As the footage shows, Jeff Britton was a typical athletic drummer, but he didn't get along with the other band members, resulting in a short-lived band. This has long been a classic video capturing Wings with Jeff Britton in the fold. However, since this footage was recorded, not rehearsed, the performance is highly polished. Of course, the DVD also includes "THE BACKYARD," in which Paul sings and plays rock 'n' roll. In the past, this footage was only shown on the menu screen of "THE McCARTNEY YEARS," and the entire video was never available to watch. It was released last year, and everyone was frustrated that it hadn't been released on DVD since then. Now, this Wings video is finally available in your hands. Needless to say, it's subtitled, and you'll enjoy the narration of the band members during the performances.・The video uses the high-bitrate 2024 broadcast version, and the audio uses the UK Sky Arts broadcast version. ・Color noise has been removed, and color correction has been applied to footage that was so faded that faces looked red. ・The keyboard volume of "Jet" was too loud, so it has been replaced with Geoff Emerick's stereo mix. ・The sound of Jeff Britton's drums before "My Love" was almost completely removed, so it has been replaced with the original. ・"1985" has been replaced with a 2-channel remix that prevents Paul's vocals from flying around.
