Paul Bley, known for his significant influence on Keith Jarrett and his contributions to the free jazz movement of the 1960s, performs an aesthetic duet with Austrian saxophonist Wolfgang Puschnik in this superb performance, presented in the highest quality sound. Wolfgang Puschnik was a founding member of the Vienna State Opera and performed with Hans Koller's quartet "Air Mail" and "Saxophone" in the early 1980s. Carla Bley also famously recruited him to her group in the mid-1980s. He has released eight solo albums. This aesthetic duet was recorded live at the Saalfelden Jazz Festival in Austria in August 2001. The pair's sharp, thrilling improvisation cuts through the tranquil atmosphere, including a performance of Paul Bley's classic "Ida Lupino." This is a must-listen recording for all jazz fans, not just ECM fans.
