Patti Smith fell ill during her December 2023 tour of Italy, causing her to cancel her Bologna and Venice shows. Despite concerns about her condition, she made a stunning comeback in Brooklyn at the end of the year. Since her February 2024 New York performance, she has been touring with both the Patti Smith Group and the Patti Smith Quartet. In April 2025, she returned to Japan for the first time in nine years as part of her latest project with the contemporary sound art collective, Soundwalk Collective. This release features a live performance from her latest tour, held at the X-TRA event venue in Zurich, Switzerland, on July 22, 2025, in its entirety, in high-quality stereo audience recording. Digitally transferred directly from the digital PCM master, the vocals are crisp and clear, with each part exceptionally well-balanced and rich in depth. Featuring her son Jackson Smith on guitar, Tony Shanahan on bass and keyboards, and Seb Rockford on drums, the Patti Smith Quartet performed a full set, including covers of Bob Dylan's "Man in the Long Black Coat," Steve Earle's "Transcendental Blues," the Smashing Pumpkins' "Bullet with Butterfly Wings," and Charlotte Day Wilson's hit "Work."
