This is a live compilation of Patrice Rushen, whose many hits include "Forget Me Nots." The recording begins at Southport Weekender on May 11, 2012, and was shot with a smartphone camera by someone close to the band, with edited intervals between songs, resulting in a truly intimate and enjoyable audience experience. The performance begins with two of Patrice's signature songs: a quick introduction, "Number One," and the danceable "The Hump." Everett Harp gracefully performs "Monday Speaks" from his album "In the Moment" on saxophone. Bassist Freddie Washington has worked with Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, and Al Jarreau, and has been a touring member of Steely Dan since 2006. He also contributes vocals to the funk, which then flows into the classic "Remind Me." Doc Powell, who has worked with Wilson Pickett and Luther Vandross, among others, also performs. His guitar playing, reminiscent of George Benson, led to a cover of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," a Grammy-nominated R&B Instrumental. "Oneness" delivered a live, immersive jazz-funk performance, driven by Ndugu Chancler's drumming. Patrice captivated the audience with his "P Funk" riffs on shoulder keyboards. The drum solo was actually the intro, and the sudden break into "Forget Me Nots" was thrilling. The bass solo, "Forget Me Nots," was actually co-written by Freddie with Patrice. The second half of the album developed into Prince-esque funk, and just when you thought it was over, they immediately inserted "Haven't You Heard" for a truly grand finale. The DVD also includes audience footage of "Number One" by Yellowjackets drummer Ricky Lawson, saxophonist Eric Marienthal (formerly of Chick Corea's Electric Band), and Reggie Hamilton (bassist for Seal and Babyface). Additionally, a pro-shot video of Patrice playing keyboards on Santana and Wayne Shorter's "Fireball 2000" is also included.
