This is PMG's first album in five years, featuring the incredible multi-instrumentalist Richard Bona, who plays bass, vocals and a variety of other instruments, and is a live performance from Italy during the 2002 European tour accompanying the release of the masterpiece "Speaking of Now," which won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album!!! Since the first album after moving to Warner Brothers, "Imaginary Day" in 1997, all members except Pat, Lyle Mays, and Steve Rodby have been replaced, and new members include Richard Bona on bass, vocals, percussion, and acoustic guitar, Antonio Sanchez, Pat's most trusted right-hand man to this day, and Khun Vu on trumpet and vocals. This masterpiece, the first in five years, was released with the new PMG, and the European tour began in Norway on May 5, 2002. This two-disc set is a recording of the performance in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy on June 14th, which lasted more than two hours, and is now available in superb high quality sound, carefully mastered by the label itself!!! The live performance with this lineup can be seen on the DVD containing footage taken at the Japan show in September of the same year, but was it omitted due to adult circumstances? The masterpiece "Bright Size Life" that everyone wanted to see (hear) is fully recorded on both performances, in which Richard Bona plays the entire song on fretless bass, including the astonishing solo. On the original studio version, Jaco Pastorius' unique bass line was fantastic and made the song even more appealing, but here Bona shows off a fascinating bass that seems as if Jaco has taken over. Also, the incredibly amazing solo in the middle of the song (of course, it is played differently at each performance) will blow everyone away! In addition, "Phase Dance", "First Circle", "Minuano", "The Bat", and other songs that cannot be heard on the official DVD are also included in abundance! Of course, most of the new songs from the album "Speaking of Now" are included in the set, including Antonio's solo polyrhythm and Bona's multi-talented "You", Lyle's large-scale keyboards "Proof" and "Another Life", PMG's first horn player Kung Vu, who is Pat's Ornette Coleman, "Scrap Metal", and the groovy Steve, who is a modest but solid backbone of PMG. The performance is full of the charms of the new PMG, and is full of highlights! With a new approach, such as the debut of the Picasso guitar on "Are You Going With Me", you can hear the overwhelming playing that makes you imagine him striving to even greater heights as a guitarist!
