Ozzy Osbourne's masterpiece "THE ULTIMATE SIN," which saw him transform from the shadowy world of British heavy metal into the glamorous world of LA metal, is now available on CD. The rare original version of "Shot In The Dark" is also included in the excellent US first pressing LP. This release is confirmed. The search for the perfect first pressing LP led to the desire to hear a masterpiece in the best possible sound... perhaps even a music fan's instinct, or perhaps even a karma. While most people simply buy the latest remastered CD, audiophiles are not satisfied with that alone. They seek out the same album on various media, including CD, LP, and cassette, and compare international pressings in pursuit of the "best sound." This release is the pinnacle of "THE ULTIMATE SIN," discovered during this journey of pursuit. The original US first pressing LP, "OZ 40026," was originally released in 1986. This is a meticulously transferred CD from that mint-quality pressing. Typically, the leading candidate for the best album is the "first pressing from the artist's home country." However, this isn't an absolute rule. Sometimes, for various reasons, a pressing from another country sounds better, or a first pressing on CD is the best. This can only be determined by checking each individual release, which is why the search for the best album is likened to the quest for the Holy Grail. In the case of "THE ULTIMATE SIN," enthusiasts' conclusion was the "US first pressing LP." The album's sound is natural and dynamic, with a top-notch groove and dynamism on a whole new level. Its richness explodes from the intro of the first track, "The Ultimate Sin." It begins with a striking "dum, dum, dum, dum..." beat, but the current remastered CD emphasizes only the drum beats, creating a hard, metallic sound. In contrast, this album's sound is so realistic that you can practically feel the drums vibrating with each and every hit. This isn't just a matter of tone. The vibe emanating from each individual note is completely different, and the dynamic energy created by their connection is on another level. And when the band joins in, the difference becomes even more pronounced. On the current remaster, each instrument sounds distinct yet flat. Visually, it's bland, like paintings layered on glass slides. However, this album has an organic, three-dimensional quality, like an oil painting. Each note has the texture of oil paint, and the flowing ensemble makes you feel like the band is truly there. This sound is especially pleasing because it's "THE ULTIMATE SIN." "THE ULTIMATE SIN" marked a turning point in Ozzy Osbourne's career, moving from drama to groove. Ron Nevison, a producer known for his dry sound, also created this album. This has led to the album being perceived as "sharp but flat," but that was a misunderstanding. The sound that flows from this album is dry, but not flat; rather, the groove feels even more dynamic. You'll fully enjoy the dynamism that "THE ULTIMATE SIN" originally possessed. While the original lengthy version of "Shot In The Dark" is satisfying enough on its own, the highlight is the final track, the masterpiece "Shot In The Dark." While the current CD runs at 4:16, this release is a whopping 4:25. It's unclear at what stage the shortening occurred, but this first pressing allows you to enjoy the original version. Looking back, "THE ULTIMATE SIN" was an unfortunate album. Whether due to the quality of the album or his own memories of the time, despite being a hit, Ozzy Osbourne himself disapproved of it and it was omitted from remastering projects. Even in the '80s catalog, "THE ULTIMATE SIN" is the only album whose 1995 remaster remains the most current. Therefore, if you want the highest quality sound, you have no choice but to reissue it on vinyl. And this album truly embodies that pinnacle. This CD brings back the original groove and includes the extended original version of "Shot In The Dark," which is unavailable on current CDs. This is the highest quality sound recording of the fourth album. The sound, digitized from the first pressing of the US LP "OZ 40026," is far more groovy than the current CD, and you can also enjoy the extended original version of "Shot In The Dark."
