Neil Young toured the world with Booker T. and the MGs in 1993. Neil, who liked the MGs he met for the first time at Bob Dylan's 30th anniversary concert the previous year, immediately followed them on a tour, which caused a lot of attention at the time. Among them, a video that represents 1993 was leaked from the summer European tour. That was Belgian's Torhout Festival, where I performed on July 3rd. It was a professional shot video recorded with a single camera by the event staff, not Neil. The existence of this video became clear through the CD, not only because it was shot professionally, but also because the sound quality of the stereo sound board recording of the video feed was excellent, and at that time masterpieces such as "SEPARATE WAYS" and "THE SOUTHERN MAN" were recorded. It is being produced. After a while, the video itself was distributed, and it reigned as the video representative of the 1993 MG's tour. For that reason, it can be said that it is a perfect video to make into a DVD, and when the MATERPORT label released this video on DVD-R about 15 years ago, it received high praise from enthusiasts. The release at that time was made into a DVD based on a tape copied from the master video, and the extremely clear image quality was so shocking that it made me ``stand in front of the monitor in the store''. Later, Scorpio released a press DVD version of the same video, and the position of the definitive version of this video changed, but in 2018, both of which have long disappeared from the market, this excellent professional shot was released for the first time in a while. The video will be released. This time, we were able to create a DVD directly from the original Betacam videotape that recorded the stage footage. Speaking of Betacam, it is a tape for broadcasting stations that can record information-rich information. As evidence of this, this video has been popular among enthusiasts as a video with excellent image quality since the days when it was distributed on video in the mid-1990s, but the quality of the recording from this master tape is one word. From the color bar that is displayed before the stage filming begins, you can be sure that the quality is the highest ever. Although the footage is monotonous with one camera and one angle, the secret to making it worth watching is probably the high quality of the images. Since this day is a Summer Festival performance, there are fewer songs compared to the regular stage, and it is a pity that songs such as "(Sitting On) The Dock Of The Bay" are not played, but it is still the 1993 MG's tour. It boasts enough content to represent. Already 25 years have passed since this tour, but when I watch it again, I am keenly aware that Neil and the MGs were still at the stage of finding their way around each other. Among them, when it comes to crazy horse numbers such as "Like A Hurricane", the hardness of the performance is undeniable. This has been pointed out from the time, but the dilemma of using artisan musicians was that the lackluster performances became evident in those songs. Furthermore, even in long numbers like “Down By The River”, there is no sharing of solos between Neil and Steve Cropper, and for better or worse, it feels unsatisfactory that it was devoted to Neil’s backing. The members other than Cropper performed with Neil again after this, but this inadvertently proved the poor compatibility between him and Neil. It's difficult for a guitarist with a strong personality like Neil and a craftsman-type musician like Cropper to coexist. Cropper showed his true potential with the unreleased song "Separate Ways," which was added to the live repertoire for the first time on this tour. Here, Cropper plays the lead throughout the entire song, and the interludes show the best play of the Telecaster. Moreover, the great thing about this video is that it properly captures the scenes where he takes solo shots. That's why you won't get tired of watching it even with just one camera. What's even more noteworthy is the late Donald Duck Dunn's bass playing on "Southern Man." On the album ``AFTER THE GOLD RUSH'', a black bassist named Greg Reeves of the band CSNY played the song, but the playing that Duck Dunn plays here is reminiscent of the studio version. There is. When Crazy Horse or a trance band played the same song, they couldn't have hoped for the rich bassline of the original, so Duck Dan's playing breathed new life into the song. It's also worth seeing. The unreleased song "Live To Ride", which was only performed on stage in 1993, has a melody and intro that makes you want to dig into it (lol), so it ended up being just a performance on stage. Although it is an unreleased song that makes sense. It is valuable to be able to see and hear it with professional shot footage and the best soundboard recording. Not only does the audience get excited by the famous songs of yesteryear, but you can't miss the sense of reality that comes with the loud cheers when "Harvest Moon", which was released the previous year, begins. Even though it was a new song at the time, it shows a touching scene that shows that it was already receiving support from fans. Although it is a one-camera professional shot video, this standard video that firmly captures the unique scenes of 1993 will be released for the first time in a while, and in the best condition!
