This DVD captures the band's performance at the 1985 outdoor jazz festival held in Tokyo in the best possible quality. This July 28th live performance at Yomiuri Land "East" in Tokyo was originally broadcast on TV, but has been released on DVD from the highest quality source available on VHS. The sound quality, even from the outdoor venue, is so immersive that even the band's subtle, light rhythms are clearly audible. Despite Miles's volatile performances around this time, he was in top form on this day. Wearing a black running jacket, he strutted lightly from side to side across the East stage. The first half of the set, when the entire band bursts into a rousing, unified performance of the then-new song "Maze," is thrilling. The set also features a soulful solo in "Time After Time," followed by a captivating finale with one of John McLaughlin's greatest ballads, "Katia." This is also the final video of John Scofield's time with the band, and it's rare to find a complete, professional-shot video of one stage, so it's definitely worth checking out!
