One of the phantom recordings that was only available to some collectors through trade, but was completely unavailable to the general public. After the Japan tour in May 1983, the US tour began in June. The performance at Avery Fisher Hall in New York, which Miles himself said was the best of this lineup, is now available in its first complete version, with the first appearance of an early show, in a 2-disc set with the highest quality sound! Miles made his comeback because his health had improved, but around the 1981 Japan tour he had been in and out of the hospital, and he was so exhausted that it would not have been surprising if he had retired at any time. However, he recovered quickly after receiving treatment from an acupuncturist introduced by someone. Just after the album "Star People" was released, Miles' health changed drastically. Around the time Miles was getting healthier, around the summer of 1982, Mike Stern, a popular guitarist and member of his comeback band, would occasionally cause problems for the band due to his bad drug habits. Here, John Scofield, who was rising to prominence at the time, was invited to help Miles and Mike, and John made his stage debut on November 17, 1982 in New Haven. From this point on, the band would have a luxurious double guitar lineup, the first since Reggie Lucas and Pete Cosey in the 70s. However, the reason why Miles did not fire Mike was because he had paid a high price for Mike, who could also play rock guitar. In fact, even after he left the band, he would come back again. This is the first release of a rare recording from the US tour that began immediately after the Japan tour in May with the double guitar lineup of Mike and John, which Miles himself said was "the best concert with this lineup" during his lifetime. This is the first time that it has been released as a rare recording that was never available to the public and was only owned by a few traders! The first concert at Avery Fisher Hall in New York on June 26, 1983, and the second concert, which was previously released but is now out of print, are finally recorded in a two-disc set with the highest quality sound, carefully mastered by the label! ! Tom Barney was the bassist for the Japan tour in May, but from the US tour in June, Daryl Jones, who has been the regular bassist for the Rolling Stones for many years and is now the richest member of the current Miles Group, joined the band. It seems that Miles' pop-ification accelerated with the addition of Daryl. Another thing worth mentioning is that Mike left the band at the end of July, so this was almost the last period of the rare double guitar lineup, and since the New York performance was a time when Miles and other musicians were all excited, I think we can hear the best performance with this lineup. Miles hits more high notes than usual throughout the entire album, and he's blowing a little too much! The bass is played by Bill Evans, Mike and John, who are rivals, and the newly joined Daryl, who plays a light and crisp bass that hits smoothly and with a sharp tone. Meanwhile, Al Foster, who keeps beating the beat as if he's not paying attention to anything, seems to be thinking that his time is about to end. Well, it's no exaggeration to say that Avery's performance is one of the best of the Miles Davis Group's double guitar performances that have been released so far! The set list for both the first and second shows is almost the same, but the arrangements and performances are different, so some songs sound like different songs! In the second show, "Star On Cicely" appears again after the final "Jean Pierre". Speak Star People What It Is It Gets Better Hopscotch Star On Cicely Jean Pierre / Star On Cicely (Reprise / Second only) Miles Davis (tp, synth); Bill Evans (ss, ts, fl, el-p); Mike Stern (g); John Scofield (g); Darryl Jones (el-b); Al Foster (d); Mino Cinelu (perc)
