The phantom official video that has been out of print for a long time has been reprinted. The fantasy work is ``THE ESSENTIAL MIKE OLDFIELD'', an official work with the theme of ``June 21, 1980 Knebworth Festival''. This is a disc that has been precisely converted into a DVD from the Japanese version laser disc, which is the highest peak. Mike Oldfield is best known for ``TUBULAR BELLS'', but he only started touring in 1979. This work is the second video work of the “IN CONCERT 1980” tour, and is a masterpiece that allows you to witness the turning point of the “PLATINUM” era stage with multi-camera professional shots. First, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule at that time. ・April 13th-30th: Europe #1 (13 performances) ・May 4th-31st: UK (24 performances) ・June 17th-29th: Europe #2 (9 performances) ←★Here★・September 19th - 28th: Europe #3 (8 performances) [QE2 released on October 31st] This is the progress of 1980. “IN CONCERT 1980” was a tour only in Europe, and they were actively touring around the “British” leg of their home country. The data at the time is clear, so I can't say with certainty that it was a performance, but the Knebworth Festival of this work is "Europe #2". Speaking of Knebworth, it is the UK's leading outdoor festival that has been going on since 1974. In 1980, in addition to Oldfield, THE BEACH BOYS, THE BLUES BAND, SANTANA, Elkie Brooks, LINDISFARNE, and others were performing. Of course, “IN CONCERT 1980” was also a highlight performance, and the scene was made into a video work. Although "THE ESSENTIAL MIKE OLDFIELD" was released at the time in Europe and Japan, it was quickly discontinued. It is now a fantasy. The pinnacle of this was the Japanese laser disc. In fact, there was a German-made DVD on the market for a while, but it was also a copy of the Japanese laser disc. Of course, this work is not a dubious German DVD, but has been precisely digitized from a mint quality Japanese laser disc. The quality is truly exquisite. Our store has introduced many laser disc reprints so far, but this work can be said to be the highest peak. It has a higher resolution than VHS and has no uneven running, bringing out the full flavor of laser discs, and the digitization by a specialized overseas manufacturer brings out the beauty of the images recorded on the original laser discs to the fullest. This is a photo that brings back exactly the scene from 38 years ago. The quality depicted is of a young Oldfield who has just awakened to touring activities. The era is after the release of "PLATINUM", but what is included is rather classics. The only new song is "Guilty", and after that, big songs such as "Tubular Bells Part I & II" and "Ommadawn" are played one after another. The arrangement is reminiscent of the masterpiece live album "EXPOSED", and the lively rock feel is really interesting. In particular, "Ommadawn" is only part 1, but it is a very delicious song as it was not heard on "EXPOSED". This alone is a must-see, but interviews are also included between the songs of this work. Oldfield speaks in the studio with a guitar in one hand, and the content is really interesting. For example, about the famous "Tubular Bells" intro. ``This pattern has been plagiarized in movies and TV commercials, so I try to change the pattern as much as possible, just a little bit,'' he says while playing the intro on his acoustic guitar. Then, while improvising the arranged intro phrase, he says, ``I can think of as many things as I want like this...there's no end to it.'' The arrangement and phrases are delicious, but Oldfield's facial expressions and speaking style are better. Although it was good that it became a hit again thanks to the movie ``The Exorcist,'' Oldfield himself was not happy about the arrangement. The true feelings are clearly conveyed from the official visual beauty. Also, “Ommadawn” is interesting. While talking about how he decided to incorporate percussion, he says with a smile, ``That time was a turning point in my life.I learned the benefits of collaborative work after living alone in the countryside.'' The joy of touring around the world oozes out in their expressions, and the video conveys it better than words. There are also plenty of comments that you won't want to miss, such as his own views on music, the behind-the-scenes stories behind the birth of his famous songs, and his enthusiasm for performing on the big stage at Knebworth. Mike Oldfield was 27 years old at the time. This is a video work that witnesses his enthusiastic performance with multi-camera professional shots, and conveys everything from his serious speaking style to his personality.
