The live performance on August 12th, when M.S.G. suddenly appeared on the big stage of the Budokan for the first time of their 1981 tour in Japan, featured a variety of performances, including the official live work "Hishou Densetsu", official and unofficial music, broadcast sound sources, and audience recordings. You can listen to it in various formats. Of course, ``Hisho Densetsu'' is the highest peak as a live work, but when you consider the circumstances behind this work, the audience recording that truly depicts what happened on stage that day and entertains you throughout the whole thing still has great value. I am. Among them, this two-disc set "PRAISING GOD" is a gem that allows listeners to relive the live performance with the highest sound quality and sense of presence. This recording was recorded by Taper, who worked on GARY MOORE's "PRAY FOR VICTIMS", etc., and of course uses the original master cassette directly, which is not even available among traders. From "Ride of the Valkyries" before the live performance, the listener can enjoy the best sense of presence and exquisite sound that can only be expressed with an excellent live tape. At the beginning of the live performance, in "Armed And Ready" and "Cry For The Nations," the sound image changes momentarily depending on the direction of the microphone, and there are times when you can hear analog noise, but from the third song "Attack Of The Mad Axeman" onwards, It is completely stable, and from then on, the high-quality sound continues until the end. I'm glad that not only Michael's playing but also Cozy's drums are included in Ultra Clear. I declare that the realistic and strong sound is the best material for knowing the truth of the Budokan performance. As an audience recording of the same performance, “TALES OF 1981” released from the same label is also excellent, but the sound quality that even surpasses that is beyond words! Due to various circumstances such as the first day of the Japan tour suddenly being held at a large venue and the setlist covering songs from the 2nd album prior to the album release, the live performance on this day was not necessarily excellent. I can't say it was a perfect stage. In the aforementioned "Attack Of The Mad Axeman," Michael hits a wrong tone at the beginning, and Paul Raymond makes a big mistake in the keyboard chord at the 2 minute mark, and there are many parts where the band and ensemble don't mesh well. is a fact. It is understandable that people who actually saw the concert or listened to it on the radio would be surprised at the difference between it and ``Hishou Densetsu'' and think of this work as the epitome of ``a made-up live show.'' The enthusiasm of the Budokan captured in the film is unmistakably real. The fans who packed the venue were truly entranced by Michael's guitar and Cozy's drums, and gave loud cheers and generous applause for each song. The setlist is mostly new songs that have not yet been released, so fans are probably not familiar with them, but in terms of excitement, you won't feel any difference from the songs on their 1st album. The quality of the performance was one thing, but the positive feelings of the fans, who said, ``I'm happy to hear the new song'' and ``I just want to hear the band play,'' made this Budokan performance a ``legendary'' and a special live that will be passed down to this day. It turns out that it was done. In the middle of the live performance, the band loses its initial stiffness, and in “Into The Arena” you can enjoy the thrilling play typical of M.S.G. at the time. In the same song, the entire venue was filled with great joy the moment Paul called out the song title, and the cheers that rose even during the change in the middle to the second half were unbearable. This sense of realism is a spectacle that can only be experienced in this work! In the introductory part, you can also hear Cozy's real voice count, which is not included in the official version, and this is a must-listen for fans. The dreamy and melodious mood of the following song, “On And On,” seemed to be quickly accepted by Japanese fans, and the prelude received a good response. It is almost miraculous that the moment when the famous song first appeared in front of the fans remained with such wonderful sound quality. The flow from “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie” to “Tales Of Mystery” is a highlight during the live performance. Cozy's drum solo that combines "633 Squadron" and "1812 Overtue" with Michael's clear ad lib long solo in the second half of "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" is a great listening point. In particular, Koji's solo has a big tone that takes advantage of the acoustics of the venue. It is worth listening to this work just to enjoy this drum solo, which is captured so realistically and flashy that you can almost see the scene of the venue on your eyelids. Since there are some missing changes, they are compensated for with the master of "TALES OF 1981", achieving a complete recording). Even in the second half of the live performance, there were some mistakes in the members' playing of songs such as "Doctor Doctor" and "Are You Ready To Rock," and there were many songs that were replaced with "Hishou Densetsu," but as the live performance became more intense, I think the listeners will get absorbed in the live performance and think, ``I don't care about that anymore.'' It's the complete opposite of the official live performance that was well-done in the studio, and I was surprised at the unorganized and chaotic performance, but this is also the truth of live performance, and the audience recording like this one has. It's interesting as a ``record of the truth.'' The outstanding sense of realism that envelops this entire work will transport the listener back in time to ``that era,'' allowing them to experience M.S.G.'s 1981 Budokan performance, which was filled with excitement and enthusiasm, in its entirety. This 100-minute document, which includes everything from the opening BGM to the final announcement, is a must-have for all Michael and Cozy fans.
