In November 1982, Epic executives listened to the finished album "Thriller." Quincy Jones's opinion and Michael's opinion are slightly different. Quincy decided that because there were too many elements added to the album, it was not realistic to keep each side A and B to 19 minutes or less, so he cut down the length of each song and edited them. Michael's opinion is different. He said that he packed too many excellent songs into the album, which exceeded the recording capacity, resulting in a deterioration in sound quality, so Epic gave him 10 days to edit one song per day and complete "Thriller." Quincy said that each song was too long, which caused the quality of the album to deteriorate, while Michael said that the album itself was great, but the sound quality deteriorated because it was too long. However, if the sound quality deteriorated, there may have been an idea to cut one song and release it as a total of 8 songs, although it would have been a difficult decision. Honestly, none of the songs could be cut, but I wonder if "Lady In My Life," which wasn't released as a single and is over six minutes long, would be a candidate. "Thriller" without such a wonderful song wouldn't be "Thriller" after all. It's unrealistic to work on it suddenly, but did you ever think of releasing it as a 2LP? There are many candidates for "Thriller." In the early days of "Thriller," there were five candidates for inclusion: "Got The Hots," "She's Trouble," "Carousel," "Hot Street," and "Niteline." Since you were planning to include them, all five songs were complete. If you included these, it would be enough for 2LPs. And it could be said that it was the ultimate "Thriller." In fact, before the release of "Thriller" (November 30, 1982), a masterpiece double album had appeared on the charts. It was Michael's rival, Prince's "1999" (October 27, 1982). It was a double album despite having 11 songs. There were many long songs. This means that Michael knew about this before the Thriller listening party. Of course, since Michael and Prince are doing it, I didn't ask Quincy to make it a two-disc set. It's not because it would be rejected, but because I hadn't thought of it in the first place, and if Michael was going to release it, it would be one LP. However, Michael told Quincy that he wanted to make it a three-LP for his next album, Bad, but he was turned down. 14 songs in total, 68 minutes and 2 seconds in length. The ultimate Thriller that will still hold up in the CD era. If it had been released, would it have surpassed Prince's 1999, or would it have become a monster album despite the high price of the two-LP album, which would not have sold well? Side A 1.
