The album title song "Bad" was recorded in October 1986. But it was completed before that. It was written by Michael and produced by Quincy and Michael. First, it was tentatively titled "P" or "Who's Bad." P is the initial of Prince, and it means who's Bad? "Quincy convinced Michael that if you and Prince were going to work together, now was the time, "Bad." If you were willing to unite. Quincy invited Michael and Prince to dinner at his house. Before they met, the phone rang. Hey, Q, is Prince there yet? It was Michael. Quincy said, not yet, Prince hasn't come. Five minutes after the phone was hung up, the phone rang again, this time from Prince. Hey, Q. Is Michael there? He's not. Okay. They both checked back and forth like this for 20 minutes. Neither of them wanted to go first. Quincy said to Michael, come on, let's stop this. He knew Michael, because they were together all the time. But he didn't know Prince. Michael showed up two seconds later, and then the doorbell rang. Prince came in. Everyone sat down to talk for dinner. Prince said, I have a question, I want to know about the lyrics. Quincy said, 'Of course.' So... who's gonna sing it?' Tavis Smiley: "The first line of the song was, 'Your ass's mine.' So I said, 'Who's gonna sing it to who? You'd never sing it to me, and I'm never gonna sing it to you.' So that was a problem." Prince told Chris Rock about the lyrics of "Bad" in 1997: "Your ass is mine, I'll make sure you know it. Come out, I'll tell you how I feel about you, I'll hurt you, but I won't shoot you. I'll count to three, do what you can, but watch your mouth, I know what you're doing, what you're doing next. There are no limits, they say to me, they do, but my friend, you don't see anything. You just wait until I'm done, because I'm bad. The world has to answer right now, say it again, who's bad?" Prince couldn't believe Michael had the guts to sing, "I'm bad." It was like there was nothing bad about Michael. And he couldn't forgive Michael for that. Not only did Prince say he wasn't going to sing with Michael, he went into the studio and re-recorded what he thought the song should have been, and sent it to Michael, "No, not like that, this is how it should have been." And that was it. But that's the way Prince was." Lyrics from Susanna Melvoin's "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me?": "Look into my big brown eyes. Tell me what's on your mind. Do you really love me? Or you just want to make time for me? That's ok. I just want you to spend a little time with me. I can see in your eyes that you really, really love me. Loving me is all you want, right? Don't you want to love me? Hey? Don't you want to be alone with me? Don't you want me to be yours? I'm not that hard to get. I just want you to know, baby, I'm not ready yet. To give you my all. I don't want to tease you. I just want to get you excited. I know I can please you, make your voice hoarse, 'til the party's over." It includes a demo titled "Who's Bad," Prince's "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me?" sent to Michael on September 18, 1986, and a snippet created by AI, "Wouldn't You Love To Love Me?" sung by Michael. "Crack Kills" was produced with Run-D.M.C. and recorded at Westlake Studios from November 4, 1986 to January 11, 1987. Run-D.M.C. was supposed to feature on it, but their rap parts were never written and of course never recorded. They only met once with Michael in the studio. "It definitely exists. It has vocals on it. It's more complete than I thought it would be." Joe Vogel Since then, the title has been brought up many times by several of Michael's collaborators, and its existence was confirmed during his testimony in Mexico in 1993. In the 00s, the lyric sheet for "Crack Kills" was once auctioned online. A list of notes was released by Bottrell, one of which shows that "Crack Kills" (listed simply as "Rap Song") was written at Westlake in January '87. Here are the lyrics: Crack kills your mother, your father Your sister, your little brother Crack kills the baby, it's shady Not maybe, it's such a loser Crack kills the winners, the sinners It's such a loser, it's this to take you I'm how far, and you all know Who you are, crack kills Crack cocaine kills your mother, your father, it kills your buddies, it kills your lovers. It's beyond expectation, it's the absolute worst. Crack kills winners and sinners, it's the worst, it's crack that makes you go through this. How far am I going, you all know who I am. Crack is killing something else too. Unfortunately, "Crack Kills" has not leaked. Here are some DJ mixes made from AI and other songs. First, Complete Version AI is the most solid and has a cool sound, but the sound quality is a little hard and demo-like. And the instrumental version is also included. Created with Udio AI, which is a mid-tempo ballad, and Fanmade AI Song, which is interesting with its irregular rhythm, contain a little rap that should not have been included. Then, Demo 1, which was made ignoring the lyrics, Demo 2, which was made using the lyrics, and Feat. Run DMC, which uses Run DMC's rap "Crack" and mixes Michael's "Cheater" with "2Bad" (although it was released at a different time) to create a very thrilling track. "Throwin' Your Life Away," with its melancholy chorus melody and plenty of hooks, was recorded at Havenhurst from December 15, 1986 to January 4, 1987. Co-produced with Bill Bottrell, it was scheduled to be included on the album "Bad," but was not included. However, it was featured again on the 1988 tour. There are notes from Michael in 2009 that say it was a candidate for an album. This time, we have a snippet of "Throwin' Your Life Away" and a recording made to sound like the '87 version. The '88 version has been leaked, but it will be included in the later title. This was recorded in '87, when "Al Capone" was shelved and he focused on making "Smooth Criminal". The album includes the Early Demo, which has a demo-like finish with multi-tracks swapped, and the 1987 Alternate Demo, which is a collection of several snippets, both of which are fan-made. And the recordings that are assumed to be from the '87 period, Original 2nd Demo from 1987, Demo 1986/1987, Rare Demo 1987, and Demo 1987, are all snippets. Michael created "Smooth Criminal" inspired by the mafia and crime movies of the '40s and '50s. And the phrase "Annie, are you OK?" refers to the training method used in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (commonly known as CPR) courses. There is a training mannequin called Rescue Ann where trainees practice checking the patient for consciousness and response before administering CPR by asking, "Annie, are you OK?" Michael took CPR classes while recording Bad. "I write close to 100 songs, maybe more, for every album, so getting them on the album is like cracking a code. 'Smooth Criminal' is one of those songs that probably didn't make it." -Michael Jackson's Private Home Movies, 2003 Someone Put Your Hand Out There is a theory that this song was originally titled Someone Put Your Hand Down. A demo was made in 1987, and the recording has been leaked. It has a medium-slow, very pleasant sounding sound, different from the version that was later made for Dangerous with Teddy Riley from February 1990 to October 1991. The lyrics are also different. Here are the lyrics from the demo: "Every day my heart aches, lonely. Crying deep inside. Let me grieve, 'cause I can live with the pain. Tears ain't bad. Oh I feel it (I feel it), my heart is for you (my heart is for you), Someone save my soul, Any way, right now, come on. Someone reach out. Begging for your love. I'm just reaching out, my heart needs your love. Say the words to make me go crazy, come on. Give me hope every day. I can't see, but I can say words to you, Any words. Hurt and no effect, But my heart is for you, Someone save my life, Yes, Anything, Just tell me right now. Save me from this heartache, Listen to my heartache, I can say I really don't want to, Oh, how much more no can I take? Oh!" The mix uses the 1990 version with Teddy, but I thought it would be interesting to have it on "Bad" because it has a jazzy feel to it. 1. Who's Bad (Demo) 2:44 2.
