Although he would have liked to fill the album with Michael's own compositions, Quincy Jones also considered songs from outside sources that had potential hits. "Song Groove (a.k.a. Abortion Papers)" was co-produced by Michael himself at Sound Castle Recorders in 1987, and was recorded by Michael himself. It may have been controversial if released, as Michael expresses his own thoughts on abortion. Michael spent a lot of time trying to write this song in the right way. "It had to be written carefully so as not to hurt or make women feel guilty about having an abortion...I really thought about it." From Michael Jackson's notes Engineer Matt Forger wrote: "But when you listen to this song, it feels like it's telling a story. Michael really thought hard about how to approach this song." Apparently, even native speakers have difficulty pronouncing some parts of the lyrics, so it's not like the song was completed. "Abortion permit, think about life, I need a child" is an anti-abortion message. It is speculated that "Abortion Papers" was not included in "Bad" because Madonna released "Papa Don't Preach" which dealt with a similar theme. Rumor has it that the production team of the album at the time did not want to be seen as imitating their rival Madonna. However, this fact has not been confirmed by anyone involved in the production of the album. The original Song Groove, instrumentals, a cappella, and the 80's Mix that definitely feels 80's. The Metropolis Zone Remix, which is very interesting with vocoder and game sounds, and the excellent SWG Extended Mix, which respects the original sound. "Cheater" is a collaboration between Michael and Greg Phillinganes. It was recorded at Hayvenhurst in 1986. It was not included in "Bad" after all. There is a rumor that he recorded it with rapper Fat for "Invincible" in 2000. However, the version with rap has not been leaked. However, "Cheater" was included in "The Ultimate Collection" and released as a promotional single. It is written as "Cheater (Demo)", so it can be said that it was unfinished. Furthermore, "Cheater" is featured in the list of things to do for Michael's 11th album, and it is written as Finish. It is thought that the version recorded from March 13th to 17th, 1987 is "Cheater (Demo)". This time, we have "Cheater (Demo)", and an instrumental version. The Bass and Drums Mix, which brings the bass and drums to the forefront, has a very demo-like feel. It also includes an a cappella. Furthermore, the Extended Mix is actually an edit that is shorter than the longer one, but it has a rockish guitar and is a version that should be included in "Bad". The Extended Version is extended by adding an intro and a Lindrum-like rhythm track, and the Recondtructed version changes the song structure to start with vocals suddenly. The Alternate Version is included, where the effects are not extreme and the keyboard is added in a blended form. Lyrics from "Cheater": "You know I'm so into this game, writing letters to the CIA quarantine. I don't give a damn about the police or you. You're mine, so put your money on it. Someone says you should give up on feeling, but a mind-blowing thrill is what you need. You don't need me, you're a sly little shit. Give me a fight, you need to change your attitude." "We Are the World," "Heal the World," and "Man in the Mirror" are great songs with humanitarian themes that encourage listeners to "make the world a better place." "Man in the Mirror" was written by Saida Garrett and Glen Ballad. Quincy Jones (who co-produced the song with Michael) invited Saida to his house for a meeting with other songwriters and asked them to work together on songs for his next album. Saida recalls that Quincy said, "I just want a hit song. That's all." She took the request to her songwriting partner Glenn, who joined as a keyboardist. Glenn was inspired by a song Saida had been singing for about a year, with lyrics about a man looking in the mirror. The two spent a week perfecting the demo, and Saida recorded a guide vocal. She called Quincy right away and told him she didn't need to wait until Monday. With that, Quincy immediately invited her over to his house to get the tape. Four hours later, Quincy called Saida and told her the song was in. Saida and Glenn wrote a slightly longer middle eight (which leads into the chorus) and revised some of the lyrics at Michael's request. Quincy brought in the Andrae Crouch Choir at Westlake to record additional gospel vocals. This album includes a demo of "Man In The Mirror," a simple song with keyboards as the backing, sung by Saida, and a fan-made remix by Reborn Stripped, with the backing sound stripped down to a simpler version, with Michael as the main vocalist and Saida singing more.
