Their first new album in eight years, "HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT," is amazing! Many people have already listened to it, and while it has stirred up controversy as usual, it is a huge hit without the sound problems that have been a part of the recent tradition. It is naturally number one in the US, a reserved seat since "BLACK ALBUM," and is number one on the charts in 57 countries around the world. It is in the top three at 75th place and in the top five in 105 countries, and it is an extraordinary whirlwind that has not been seen since "BLACK ALBUM." Speaking of 2016, MEGADETH also achieved number three in the US with "DYSTOPIA," and it seemed like "maybe they will finally catch up," but the champion is on a different level. As expected, it is a dignified work. "HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT" is truly the last shock of 2016. In addition to the content, the release was also elaborate. Even if the luxurious deluxe edition is expected, it is less than 80 minutes, but it is divided into two discs, an unprecedented full-song promo video is released in advance, and live footage is released every day to count down to the release date.... The biggest highlight of all was the special live performance on the release date, "November 18, 2016 THE HOUSE OF VANS performance". METALLICA has been enthusiastically and frequently releasing live videos recently, but among them, it was a fierce pro shot of high quality and full show. This work is a press DVD that contains that full pro shot. There were some fine noises in a few places in the online distribution, but it is one of the top quality that does not have even that. The quality is no longer question. The sound board with super vivid image quality and ironclad mix makes it stupid to call it "official class" every time. In the modern digital age, the best quality has become the norm, but there are not many things like this. What makes this film different from the average superb broadcast (that's a strange expression) is the perfectly directed camera work. The venue itself is special. It's not a huge outdoor festival, nor a broadcasting station studio, but a facility called "HOUSE OF VANS" that uses a tunnel that was once used as a subway. It's a live performance with 350 fans. Therefore, it has a lot of intimacy like a home party, but it's not small like a studio. It's full of "otherworldly mood" like playing in a nuclear shelter. Furthermore, they put all the equipment they could into that small space and perfectly controlled the lighting and direction. At festivals, the angles tend to be the same as any band, but this work is completely METALLICA. Every song is depicted at an angle that seems to be calculated beat by beat, beyond familiarity. In "Fade To Black" and "One", dedicated lighting creates a fantastic space, and in "Breadfan" and "Battery", the heat concentrated in the small venue is incredible. It's a live broadcast with a release-level perfection. As expected, it's a monster. It's a visual art with plenty of ideas, sense, and funds. And the live performance unfolding in that otherworldly space is also hot. It's probably a content that anticipates the main tour, but it's a lineup of the best parts from "KILL EM ALL" to "BLACK ALBUM", and it includes three new songs that are sweeping the world, "Atlas, Rise!", "Moth Into Flame", and "Hardwired". These three songs were released before the full song was released, but the tunes that evoke the NWOBHM to thrash eras don't feel out of place even when mixed with the first five albums, and the audience's groove, who must have already listened to it, is no different from the classics. You can fully enjoy the "metal push" that is the core of this great success (I was also looking forward to "Murder One", which was dedicated to Lemmy only in London, but that will be a treat for later). After the climax, which jumped from the new song "Hardwired" to "Seek & Destroy", the final highlight is. In fact, this day was not only the birthday of the new work, but also Kirk Hammett's 54th birthday. As the reverberations of "Seek & Destroy" roared, Kirk was covered in pies with all the staff. He was hit one after another by the side wiping his face, and the whole venue sang the birthday song. Kirk ripped the pies off his body and served them to the venue... METALLICA is a "simple band guy" who never changes, while showing off the monster with an ironclad production. It is a film that condenses the two poles that keep them special. A special show on a special day. It is a film that depicts the special scene that unfolded there with a super-excellent professional shot. It is not just a superb full professional shot, but a piece that symbolizes the moment of the birth of "HARDWIRED... TO SELF-DESTRUCT" and the era of its release. This is a record that should be placed alongside the studio album. The biggest and best monster work to enjoy the "now" when the earth is excited about the new work.
