Following METALLICA, the legendary MEGADETH, who conveyed "real thrash metal", came to Japan for the first time. A scorching live album that vacuum-packed the historic scene is now available. This work contains the "April 4, 1987: Aichi Welfare Pension Hall" performance. It is a superb audience recording that was made into a CD directly from the original cassette excavated by a unique route. Until now, recordings of the Tokyo and Osaka performances were known, but of course this work is a completely different performance. First of all, let's check the position of the show in the schedule of the first visit to Japan, which will be a monument. ・April 2: Shibuya Public Hall "'DETH'S COMING" ・April 3: Shibuya Public Hall "'DETH'S COMING" ・April 4: Aichi Welfare Pension Hall [This work] ・April 6: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall [Long live album with powerful sound] All four performances. We have reported on MEGADETH's first visit to Japan in the masterpiece "'DETH'S COMING (Power Gate-044)", but the Nagoya performance of this work is the concert the day after. The quality of this work is a clear sound with a tremendous sense of realism. Until now, the first visit to Japan was equal to "'DETH'S COMING", but the more robust and bold musical tones of this work roar. Moreover, it is wonderful because it is not a type of explosion or roar. No, in fact it is quite noisy, but that is not a recording, but a sound emitted by MEGADETH itself. Even a single grain of bass is bold but never cracks, and even if it is powerful, the peak does not distort. Although it is not the type that is called "like a sound board", there is almost no sense of distance, and the complex and mysterious song development is clear to the subtleties of the riff. It is the sound that will be the best masterpiece of the first visit to Japan. As happy as such a sound is the length. "'DETH'S COMING" was a two-disc set with two performances, but this work is a two-disc set with one performance. Not only "Killing is My Business" and "Chosen Ones" that were not on the first day, but also the encore "Skull Beneath The Skin" that could not be heard throughout the two Tokyo performances was played. As a result, it became a long show that played all repertoires except "Looking Down the Cross" and "I Ain't Superstitious". Moreover, "KILLING IS MY BUSINESS" and "PEACE SELLS... BUT WHO'S BUYING?" are great masterpieces that shine in the history of thrash metal. It is a rare and special thrash paradise even looking back on the long history. [The scene of the first meeting that was too fierce] What's more, the breath of the audience is the strong personality of this work. This is already scorching hot and hot! As expected, they were mostly silent during the performance (they were shaking their heads in complete concentration, lol), but the cheers that rose up between songs were amazing. If there was even a short gap between songs, "Woo!" and "Daybu!" would fly everywhere, and some even called out to the band with the now nostalgic pun "Medazu!" (lol). No, it wasn't just between songs. Early MEGADETH was intellectual thrash packed with great riffs that made you wonder "how many songs are there in that?", but in a live performance, it unfolded at an incredible speed. Even if you listen to it on CD, you'd be left behind, but the Nagoya audience kept up with the super-fast development and roared at the fine details. They memorized even the complex songs well, and accurately aimed for the "gaps" between the riffs. Among this "maximum serious" audience, it was actually the female audience that particularly caught my ear. Usually, when you think of thrash metal, you think of a storm of rough male voices, but MEGADETH is not like that. There are plenty of female voices here and there in the venue. Moreover, these female customers add a nice touch. Usually, when you think of female customers, you think of high-pitched squeals like those at idol concerts, but these metal girls are amazing. They shout "Yeeee!" but not "Scream!", and join in with the guys and shout "Peace sells... but who's buying!!" in a rough voice. And between songs, they talk to each other, saying, "The vocals are great. And that plump ass..." and evaluate the music with the perverted mind of a dirty old man. The fact that they call Mustaine "the vocalist" gives the impression that it's their first time in Japan, but their keen eyes are also because it's their first time in Japan. Yes, the women gathered here don't have any interest in packaged idols that the media uses. They are proud "Western metal girls" who find "icons" with their own eyes and ears. Mustaine, facing such an audience, also had a strong feeling of being in Japan for the first time. He was in a strangely good mood, using the Japanese phrases "Aishitemasu" and "Domoarigato" in abundance. In the scene introducing "Mechanix," he grumbles, "I wrote that," while mentioning METALLICA's name, and then shouts "Shit!!" with all his might. Even after saying that, he was in such a good mood that a big smile appeared in his voice. Even more amazing is Disc 2. The encore begins with "Mechanix," the last song in the main program, but the audience waits for an encore one song at a time. The audience there was amazing. At first, he shouts "Megadesu!" in full katakana, but gradually he runs out of energy. "My voice is hoarse... I can't take it anymore," "Ready, Megadesu!" "Megadea... Mega!" Still, he has no intention of stopping, and half-screams in desperation. He continues to shout with the spirit of "Let's just pull out one more song!", and when he really comes out, plays one song, and leaves, he shouts again. This work includes the entire scene, right up to the closing announcement, "Please go home without leaving anything behind." Severe, intense, ferocious. This is the era of thrash metal. If the thrash of early MEGADETH is chaotic, the enthusiasm of the audience is also chaotic. I have worked on countless live albums by countless bands, but I can't remember a live album that was so vivid and so scorching hot. METALLICA's first visit to Japan is also legendary, but MEGADETH's first visit to Japan was definitely legendary. This work is solid proof of that. This is an extraordinary "on-site album" that exhales the air that the original cassette has contained for 30 years from the speakers.
