The latest installment of Kinney's original cassette reprint series is here! This time, the original master unearthed contained McAULEY SCHENKER GROUP's performance in Japan, which will be released for the first time worldwide. This year, he will be returning to Japan with Robin McAuley for the first time in 28 years, but he has only visited Japan once with the McAULEY SCHENKER GROUP. First, let's check the schedule for the usual performance in Japan. ・February 5th: Sapporo Employees' Pension Hall ・February 8th: Osaka Festival Hall ・February 9th: Osaka Festival Hall ・February 11th: Nagoya City Public Hall ・February 13th: Kyoto Moriyama Civic Hall・February 14: Shizuoka Civic Cultural Center ・February 15: Tokyo, Nippon Budokan [This work] ・February 16: Tokyo, Nippon Budokan ・February 18: Fukuoka Sun Palace ・February 19: Okayama・Kurashiki Civic Hall・February 21st: Nagoya City Public Hall ・February 22nd: Kyoto Kaikan In total, 12 performances. It was a large-scale tour that tied with January 1984 for the largest number of performances in the history of Michael Schenker's visit to Japan. The highlight of this work is the audience album of the first day of Nippon Budokan “February 15, 1988”. The person who recorded such a live performance was the famous Kinney, who is synonymous with the history of bootlegging in Japan. For some reason, the original cassette of the recording, which was not released at the time, appeared after 28 years. That sound is truly Kinney Magic. Great sound that delivers intensely clear musical tones straight to you, while still containing the vivid feeling of the scene. Until now, we have reprinted famous performances from the 80's by M.S.G.'s "DESTROY SENDAI 1984", Gary Moore, Jeff Beck, RAINBOW, IRON MAIDEN, etc., but this time too, it is a "Kinney" masterpiece. . Particularly wonderful is Michael's V sound. Although it has become like a signboard for Dean now, Gibson is still Michael. The sweet, sharp, melting tone is irresistible... In their latest work at the time, ``PERFECT TIMING,'' some complained about the guitar-heavy production (perhaps they were trying to match the scene at the time), but they showed their true potential at live performances. Even the pop melody has a clear tearful tone, highlighting the hidden beauty of the song. It has been reborn into a version that makes you think, ``I guess this is what the song was like when I wrote it.'' I especially want to mention “Follow The Night”! On the album, it was just a mediocre ballad (sorry), but in this work, Michael's Gibson V dances! Although it is a pop song, the song's thoughts are not bright enough, and the beautiful obbligato dances behind the friendly melody... And the singing voice of Robin McCauley, another partner, is also wonderful. At the time, I was shocked by the stupid (rude!) hairstyle and crazy (sorry!!) actions, but when I listen to this live album, I can honestly appreciate the quality of the singing voice itself. The album had an 80's overproduced sound with no shadows or depression, but the live voice has a husky quality with a slight melancholy. This unique emotion is so wonderful that if Phil Mogg has a "British voice", Robin can be said to have an "Irish voice". Later, in ``THE ACOUSTIC M.S.G.'', a reviewer said, ``I now understand why these two are teaming up,'' and that flavor is brought out in an electric rock sound. Her singing voice shines even in her past repertoire. I could listen to Robin's UFO number on the official "UNPLUGGED" LIVE, but this one is electric, and also includes old M.S.G.'s famous songs "Armed And Ready," "Cry For The Nations," "On And On," and "Lost Horizons." I also sing. ``On And On'', which was difficult even for Doogie White, is relaxed and allows you to immerse yourself in its delicateness, ``Cry For The Nations'' is rich in expression with subtle shadows, and ``Cry For The Nations'' brings out the charm of a dark melody with a muddy voice. "Lost Horizons", etc., have a casual and good taste with their own unique seasoning (there are songs that lower the chorus, but this one is by VAN An arrangement that shares the HALEN-like high-pitched chorus. This is also good because it sounds like the 80s, but I would have liked to hear the flavor of the high-pitched voice that was shown at the reunion in 2012). I have no intention of calling him a super technician, but you can enjoy his singing voice as it is, which is far from the "one-tone" image that has been spread around the world. The McAULEY SCHENKER GROUP era was an unfortunate one. Their pop-oriented musical style was unpopular, but now that we know that the band went quiet for more than 10 years, it was a time when "Michael & Gibson V" shined. And the sound source circumstances that convey its true value are also extremely unfortunate. Officially there was only unplugged, and even if you wanted to listen to the true electric music, there was no powerful representative sound source even in the bootleg. The time has finally come for the end of this agonizing 28-year history. "Electric" McAULEY SCHENKER GROUP with exquisite Kinney sound. Robin and Michael will be returning to Japan together in 2016, so this is a live album that you should definitely enjoy.
