Lyle Mace is a pianist best known as a member of the Pat Metheny Group. At the Metheny Group, he was deeply involved in the arrangements and determined the band's harmonies. His outstanding compositional ability is fully demonstrated in his leader works. This work was a live TV broadcast in Germany in 1993, and the picture and sound quality are both good. It's a quintet of piano, drums, bass, guitar, and vibes, and Mace, as a composer/arranger, stands back and performs as if looking over the whole thing. There's some orthodox jazz and classical parts that pop out, like Gil Evans and Carla Bley, but the composer's performance is somehow charming and fun to listen to. Recommended for those who like that kind of sound or those who are somehow drawn to great supporting roles. The recording time is 51 minutes in professional format with menu chapters.
