As mentioned in the re-release of the 1970 Dusseldorf concert, which is being released for the first time in a long time, it was the LP items released at the time that initially made the existence of this live performance known. Among them, "WHITE SUMMER" was extremely well-known and popular in the 70s. It was released by a Japanese label called MARC. Recently, the CD reprint of Queen's "INVITE YOU TO A NIGHT AT THE BUDOKAN" released by the same label is still fresh in our memory. This release is from what could be called the second generation Japanese label, which appeared after OG label, which was a pioneer in releasing rare recordings in Japan. What made this label stand out was that most of the titles were released in jackets with solid printing, unlike OG, where white jackets and slicks were the norm. One of the masterpieces was "INVITE YOU~", and "WHITE SUMMER" was also wrapped in a jacket with a sophisticated design typical of MARC (the photo is from the first leg of the 1973 US tour), and that alone made it a masterpiece not only in Japan but also among enthusiasts around the world. The main Düsseldorf album was copied from the European mega-rare LP "LIVE" (also known as "LIFE"), and in addition to its valuable sound source and content, the copy was not degraded much, and the sound quality was very easy to listen to at the time, which led to high praise. This is the opposite pattern of "A CELLARFUL OF NOISE", which was a best-seller when the American TAKRL label copied the OG 929, in other words, a Japanese label spread the word about a rare overseas record. In fact, the popularity of the album spread overseas, and later an American version of "WHITE SUMMER" was even produced. That said, it is still a 70's LP, and there are some roughness in the content. Since the three songs from Düsseldorf alone were not enough to fill up the LP, the recording from Winterland in April 1969 was also included. That would have been fine, but at the end, they even included "The ABC Song," sung by someone unrelated to ZEP, to fill the gaps in the record. This "ABC Song" is sometimes described on overseas websites as a playful performance by Plant and his daughter Carmen, but of course it is actually performed by a completely different person. It seems that 1970s bootlegs were allowed to include such incoherent recordings. This nostalgic LP, including the song "The ABC Song," is a must-have for vintage enthusiasts, and is released to coincide with the reissue of the 1970 Düsseldorf recording. This Düsseldorf recording has a larger sound image than this release, but the flashy sound quality may be a matter of personal preference now. However, this is exactly the sound that enthusiasts were grateful to hear in the 1970s. Also, unlike the OG, the second generation of Japanese LP labels (for example, Jeff Beck's Sapporo recording "LIVE IN JAPAN") were not blessed with good vendors, and the quality of the records was generally poor. In fact, the scratch noise is noticeable here as well, but that is also the feeling at the time. And the Winterland recording, especially "Communication Breakdown", had a major drawback of an extremely high pitch, but this time, even though it is a gift CD-R, this problem has been adjusted. Compared to the original LP, you can listen to it with a much more stable pitch. This was also a problem with LPs such as "UNBURIED DEAD ZEPPO'S GRAVE" and "FIRST CONCERT AS THE NEW YARDBIRDS", which also contained "Communication Breakdown" from the same performance, and there were probably tapes with pitch that were out of sync at the time. Taken from the original LP "White Summer" (MARC LZ-76053) (46:06) 1. Train Kept A Rollin' (Winterland, San Francisco, USA 25th April 1969) 2. Since I've Been Loving You (Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf, Germany 12th March 1970) 3. White Summer/Black Mountain Side (Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf, Germany 12th March 1970) 4. Dazed And Confused (Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf, Germany 12th March 1970) 5. Communication Breakdown (Winterland, San Francisco, USA 25th April 1969) 6. ABC Song (Unknown Artist)
