The 1971 opening night at the Budokan was one of the most significant discoveries of live footage of Zeppelin. The mere existence of the footage was a World Heritage-level discovery, and its surprisingly clear quality for a contemporary audience shot caused a sensation. Five years later, utilizing advances in technology, the filmmaker has restored the footage and released a new version. While it's longer than the previous release, the image quality is surprisingly clearer and easier to see. Even more noteworthy is the fact that the missing sections have been filled in with photographs, adding more tracks and enhancing the documentary experience. While the original footage was incomplete, it was revealed that two songs, "Black Dog" and "Stairway To Heaven," were new songs—or rather, that they weren't even filmed because they were unfamiliar. While this historic moment marks the first performance of new songs from the classic album "IV" in Japan, at the time, they were unheard and unfamiliar. It's only natural that the 8mm camera was turned off without filming them. On the other hand, the cameraman was also a brave man (!) who also recorded the audience, and after "Dazed and Confused" he recorded his own audio (which was of excellent quality), which was a great effort. Thanks to this, he also kindly recorded "Stairway To Heaven" even though it was just audio. What's more, the logo on the screen that was present in the previous release is gone this time, making it much easier to see. And the documentary-style presentation of the confusion that occurred during the finale, "Communication Breakdown," is truly excellent. The previous video excavation was truly surprising, but the dramatically improved image quality and the much easier-to-see footage of the first day at ZEP Budokan are a stunning upgrade!
