This time, not only will the long-awaited longest edited version of "928" be released, but the wonderful upper version of the 928 show "source 1" will also be released. For a long time until the "928" source was discovered in 2016, it was "source 1" that revealed the full picture of the legendary 928 night to us. The sound source itself has been circulating among traders for a long time, and since an analysis of the performance was published based on this in a specialized magazine around 1990, enthusiasts have been waiting for it to be made into a CD. After that, titles such as "COME ON EVERYBODY" and "PLEASE PLEASE ME" were released, and finally 928 became easy to enjoy. However, both titles have a high pitch that has been neglected. Due to such a major drawback, it seems that the 928 show was branded as being for enthusiasts compared to the day after it became a popular item of the century. This "source 1" is a stereo audience recording and the sound image is closer than the "928" source. Furthermore, the sound texture is very similar to the most popular version of the 929 audience recording source the following day (included on the first three discs of "929 ALTERNATES"). Furthermore, the sound tendency is also similar to the Floyd audience recording made a month and a half before 928 (also made at the Osaka Festival Hall and released under various "OSAKA 1971" titles). It can be assumed that it is very likely that these three sound sources were recorded with the same taper. There is a fact that further proves this. That is, both 928 and Floyd's Osaka 71 had sound source copies that went back and forth between the 3rd and 2nd generations in circulation. In particular, ZEP's 928 copies had been limited to the 3rd generation for many years (since the cassette trade era of the 1980s). This sound source was also the basis for the CD items mentioned above. Not only was there a pitch error that seemed to have been caused by the overlapping of copies, but the muddy texture also spoiled the sense of realism that is unique to stereo sound quality. It was a typical audience recording that made everyone think, "If only the sound was a little better...". However, in recent years, a sound source with the generation notation "2nd" has finally appeared on the Internet. This is a familiar editing that supplements the encore part with "source 2", but the selling point of both sound sources was that they were both second generations. In fact, there was a clear difference in sound quality between the 3rd gen. and 2nd gen. generations of the 928. The former has noticeable hiss noise, while the latter is much lower. However, the 2nd gen. has a more noticeable muddy sound, which is a drawback of this sound source, than the 3rd gen. Perhaps it was just an equalization of the 3rd gen. sound source? I even felt that sense of incongruity. In any case, neither copy was worth releasing again, and that was the biggest factor that made us hesitate to produce and plan a complete compilation of "928". This situation suddenly changed in the latter half of last year. It started when a new cassette copy of "source 1" appeared in our store. When we saw the cassette, everyone was overconfident, thinking "It's probably that source anyway...", but when we played it, we were surprised to find that it was in overwhelmingly better condition than the previous two versions! This was no longer at a level that could be changed by equalization, but was an undisputed upper version. There was no harsh hiss like the 3rd gen. version, and the muddy feeling like the 2nd gen. was also eliminated at once... "This is it!" Everyone who heard the sound source was overwhelmed by the natural upper feeling. Even though it was a trade cassette with no generation notation, the staff was stunned by the state that could not be underestimated at all. The discovery of the upper version of "source 1" alone would be a topic that rivals the discovery of the "928" source in 2016, but luckily last year a donor even appeared for the master cassette of "source 2". What a timing! As you may know if you have listened to past items, this sound source has a great advantage in that it captures the encore that was missing in other recordings, but it also has a negative point that the sound quality is inferior to any other sound source. Because of this, past items had more or less equalization applied to the "source 2" part, but it was notorious for its poor sound quality that was unavoidable. As for the net sound source version "source 2", which was mixed with "source 1" and labeled "2nd gen." as mentioned earlier, this part was also equalized. However, this time, not only has no equalization been applied at all, but it is surprising that it is easy to hear despite the rough recording state, as it is only a master cassette. Even though the hiss is strong, this naturalness is very pleasing and sounds really fresh. Since the "928" source is available, the only part of "source 2" is actually "Communication Breakdown", but you will still be amazed at how natural it is. As a result, the CD will be a very groundbreaking item in that both of the past two audience recordings of the 928 show will be released in upper versions. If the "928" source is added as a supplementary member, this will be a golden club for the demon. While the very mild texture of the "928" source is a big attraction, it is true that the sound is periodically muffled, or the Showa-era Japanese beat-like clapping that includes a hand-kneading groove in the acoustic part was harsh. In that respect, the main "source 1" is in a very stable recording state, and the excavation of the upper version this time has eliminated the "muddy sound" that was present in the past items at once. It's an item that allows you to enjoy the legendary first day in Osaka to your heart's content in a natural and warm state. Along with 929 the next day, the two days in Osaka were the stage where ZEP's "unrestrainedness" in 1971 was shown in its best form. In the United States and the UK, they performed shows with a strict structure that year, but in other countries they tended to try things freely. For example, in Dublin and Copenhagen, new songs from the album before its release were tried on stage. And in Osaka, the encore of 928 included an oldies competition with the band's entourage (Phil Carson), and in 929, they even performed their first and last live performance of "Friends". There's no doubt that the joy and excitement of being welcomed so warmly in the country of hospitality for the first time was reflected in the performance, and the MC at the beginning of 928, where Plant says, "You guys are lucky, because we're in great form today!", is proof of this. It's really interesting to see how ZEP was surprised that the audience exploded with excitement when they casually played "Please Please Me" without knowing that it was a Beatles powerhouse. They got carried away and even served up "From Me To You" (although Page's accompaniment was completely off-putting), and then urged the audience to sing along to "We Shall Overcome". The realism unique to Japanese concerts in the 1960s, when "rock" had not yet taken root and the country was "folk" and "pop", is conveyed there. Not only 929, but 928 was also a truly wonderful show. For those who have avoided 928 for the reasons mentioned above, we can confidently recommend "OSAKA 1971 1ST NIGHT", and enthusiasts should enjoy the long-awaited "928 COMPLETE EDITION". And since both are completely different sound sources, the best items of 928, which are also great to compare, will be released at the same time! ★The newly acquired tape master's source 1 (undoubtedly an upgrade!) is the main source, the already released "928" source, and the end part is supplemented from the independently acquired tape of source 2. The best and longest version. ★The intro is about 1 second longer than the previous sound source, so it can be judged as being recorded from a new cassette. The last source 2 is recorded from the master cassette and has a natural sound quality. Live at Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan 28th September 1971★UPGRADE!!!(from Original Masters) Disc 1 (58:50) 1.
