Last time, we released two types of sound sources from 1970, when ZEP live performances were extremely fresh, and they were well received, but this time we will release rare live sound sources from ZEP in the first half of 1972. Speaking of 1972, it was the year that Robert Plant's voice, which had been singing wildly and freely until then, began to decline in earnest, but because of that, the band's playing ability was still in its youthful state. The sound reflects the combination of the era when they maintained a new explosive power and the reality of plant modulation, making it a very interesting year full of changes throughout the year. Naturally, the most glorious time of this year will be the summer American tour. From our store, we have released performances such as LA Forum, which became a famous performance, Nassau Coliseum 2nd Day, and even the legendary Seattle Marathon Show. As a result, this tour was the last tour where Plant was able to perform the traditional scream, but before starting this tour, ZEP was doing a warm-up gig before going to the United States. First of all, ZEP in 1972 was touring Australia in February, but even then, the condition of the plant was beginning to show signs of decline. After that, the recording of the album "HOUSES OF THE HOLLY" began in earnest, and the two performances released this time were warm-up gigs before the American tour starting in June. That's it. At the same time, although the sound sources of these two performances are both quite excellent in terms of performance content and sound quality, it can be said that these two days were completely overlooked. After all, the impression of the American tour in June in 1972 was vivid, and the nature of it as a warm-up gig, that is, the positioning as a warm-up live before the actual performance, may have spurred it on. Certainly, in both Amsterdam on May 27th and Brussels on May 28th, which are heard here, Plant's voice does not improve in the opening "Immigrant Song". It was also the same that there were some scenes where his voice seemed to be suffering in a few songs. From his point of view, at this point he must have felt like ``It's been a long time since I've performed live, so I can't make a sound.'' Especially in Brussels, my vocal engine was slower than the day before, and I was even singing with the melody lowered considerably until "Black Dog." However, it is also unique to this period that the youthful scream of the plant echoes as soon as it is demodulated. In Amsterdam, on ``Celebration Day'', not only did Plant's voice seem to be in pain, but there was also an incident where he almost made a dramatic mistake in the composition, but Plant not only stopped the trouble, but also I am amazed by Page's elegant play. However, reflecting the condition of the plant, it may have been featured only in Charlotte, which was released by our store later in the United States. Once again, the plant was singing in pain. As you can see from this, the grooves performed by the three members other than Plant have an explosive power that is a development of 1971, and are completely different from 1973, when the change to a heavier rhythm orientation began. Among them, the smooth development of Page's play can be said to belong to the 1971 side. That's why in Amsterdam, it's a shame that the recording of "Stairway To Heaven" is cut off at the point where the performance is about to get exciting. The development of “Dazed And Confused” throughout both days was a transition period, and even though Bonzo was already hitting the rhythm of “The Crunge” at this point, Page ignored it (lol) . This is probably the big difference from the American tour. Still, there is something wonderful about Page's smooth phrases and relaxed play on both days. Especially in Brussels, when there was a gap in front of "Since I've Been Loving You," he used a march-like phrase to get the crowd to clap, or he played a solo during "Heartbreaker." At the end of the song, although it was only for a moment, I could see enough room to try to play the phrase “Steppin' Out” in Clapton style. It's also fun to see the clear difference in composition, such as ``Moby Dick,'' which was played in Amsterdam, but was omitted in Brussels, and the acoustic tune was increased there. Especially in the acoustic corner, although the plant is nervous about the noise of the audience, it completely demodulates and lets you listen to a very relaxed song. Furthermore, many people may have overlooked not only the existence of the sound sources of these two days, but also the surprisingly easy-to-listen sound quality of both. Amsterdam has a very lively sound image and vintage analog sound. In that respect, Brussels has a somewhat distant sound image, but it exceeds Amsterdam in terms of clarity and freshness, and the "Whole Lotta Love" medley at the end of the live performance, such as the Presley competition, has an amazing clearness (it was cut when the performance reached the second half). It's a shame, but Paige's play is excellent here too!) You can enjoy it. Of course, these are sound sources that have been released for a long time, but this time both sound sources have been carefully restored based on the versions recorded from the master cassette. In both cases, the pitch has not only been adjusted accurately, but also recorded in an extremely natural state. And the fact that it is a set that combines both days, which has never been seen before, is also a major release point of this time. A CD set that combines the raw sound quality of Amsterdam and the clarity of Brussels at their best. This is the definitive version of the warm-up gig, where the footwork is still light and the screams of Plant, who has recovered from the early slump, are clear!
