Since their formation in 1968, Zeppelin has not only been performing live energetically, but has also released albums in rapid succession in a short period of time. After two years of running at full speed, the band had accumulated a lot of performances, and after their US tour in 1970, they took a long vacation for the first time in a long time. Page and Plant in particular were able to recover from their long-standing fatigue at Bron-Y-Agh, a mountain hut in Snowdonia. The relaxed atmosphere in the Welsh wilderness during their vacation seems to have had a great influence on the production of their next album. After their vacation, they immediately started working on the album. This is the album that would later be released as LED ZEPPELIN III. Recording took place from May to August 1970. During this recording period, they appeared at the Bus Festival on June 28, 1970, and performed "Immigrant Song" and "I Can't Stop Loving You". In particular, "Immigrant Song" is well known for being performed in an unfinished version that was different from the final version. The new album "III" recorded in this way is more than half acoustic, reflecting the relaxed atmosphere of a vacation, contrary to the impression of the previous two albums. This change in musical style was met with mixed reviews at the time of its release, and Yoichi Shibuya, a known Zeppelin fan, evaluated it as disappointing and disappointing. However, the opening song of the concert, "Immigrant Song," the intense "Festival Day," and "I Will Always Love You," which sounds just like Janis Joplin's "Ball and Chain," all became important songs in the concerts later, and songs from "III" were actively played in the acoustic corner inserted in the middle of the concert. Although it is one of the few acoustic numbers by Zeppelin, all of them were highly polished and refined, as can be seen from the impressive use of "That's the Way" in the movie "Almost Famous." This work is a recording session of this "LED ZEPPELIN III." [Olympic Studios, London, November 1969] This is a recording of "Jenning Farm Blues," which was discovered in the 90s and became too famous. The core melody is "Snowdonia Cabin," and it can be said to be the original version. However, the biggest difference is that it was performed with an electric set. This is the earliest session recorded in this work, and it was originally intended to be a hard rock album following the previous two albums, but after a break it was sublimated into an acoustic masterpiece. Of course, it is hard to throw away "Jenning Farm Blues" performed with this electric set, and it is also fun to imagine what it would have been like if they had added lyrics to it and completed it. [Bron-Y-Ah, Wales, April & May 1970] As mentioned at the beginning, this is an acoustic performance with a more casual atmosphere than a session, recorded in a mountain hut in Wales where they spent their holidays after the tour. It feels like Page and Plant are having fun playing together, recorded with a tape running. What's surprising is that "Down by the Seaside" from "Physical Graffiti" is already being played at this point. It's a title that Neil Young would love, but Plant is said to be a fan of CSNY, and this is exactly what he was conscious of. [Headley Grange Studio, May and June 1970] The first song recorded is an instrumental with guitar. It's all acoustic. The rare one is "Hey Hey What Can I Do". It was not included in the album, but was recorded as the B-side of the single "Immigrant Song", and it was not released on CD for a long time. "Immigrant Song" is performed at a slow tempo, and when you listen to Plant's singing, you can tell that the lyrics are still unfinished, and that it is a version even earlier than the one performed at the Bus Festival. At this point, all that has been decided is the opening roar and the basic riff, and the lyrics seem to be improvised. Track 2, titled "Bathroom Song," is the working title of "Out On The Tiles." Listening to the intro, it seems that this song is an extension of the riff from "Immigrant Song." "The Boy Next Door" is the working title of "That's The Way." There are five takes on this album, and you can clearly see how he changed the tempo and experimented with the acoustic backing. It's interesting that all of them have the same basic melody, but they are all played differently. "My Oh My" is the working title of "Friends." The acoustic piece "Bron Yr Aur" is a short but great song with a beautiful melody. You can hear Plant's child's laughter nearby, and Plant's own humming is layered on top, so you can tell that this is a simple demo recording rather than a studio recording. "Poor Tom" was an unreleased track that was not included in the album, but was later released on "Final Movement". [LED ZEPPELIN III SESSIONS] This work contains all the session recordings known to exist for Zeppelin's third album. Zeppelin shows various approaches on the live stage, but it is these studio recordings created with careful consideration that support their performances on stage. It is a valuable recording that gives a glimpse into the production process of songs that are still known as rock classics. DISC ONE OLYMPIC STUDIO LONDON U.K. November 1969 01.
