The last of the turbulent releases of ZEP sound sources that we will bring you this week will be two performances in Copenhagen in 1979. Yes, a great sound source that requires no explanation for enthusiasts. The two-day live show started with the release of the masterpiece LPs ``MELANCHOLY DANISH PAGEBOYS GET IT ON'' and ``COPENHAGEN WARM-UPS,'' and until now, only one type of sound source has been used for both days. something that doesn't exist. Both were recorded by the same taper from the balcony seats of the Falconer Theater in Copenhagen. Therefore, the sound image balance is not in a state that can be called "on", but rather it is an audience recording with outstanding clearness and stereo feeling, and it is a sound source that has been well-received among enthusiasts for a long time. Because the sound quality was very good, and because definitive items were already released on LP, even CD items are still released that follow the titles and artwork of the analogues mentioned above. The fact that it continues to be used can be said to be proof of a great sound source. Just like "LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL", which is one of the best sound sources and great sound sources in the early days of ZEP Live, it is a good example of how the image of the LP era has been inherited to this day. After this, there was a British triumphal return live at Knebworth, so the purpose of the two shows in Copenhagen was positioned as a warm-up from the beginning. In other words, it was the starting point for ZEP's late-stage live performances, and in contrast to the unwavering reputation for sound quality, it is true that the performance was not fairly evaluated. However, currently, the two days in Copenhagen are considered to be the best performances produced by late ZEP. It is ironic that while the sound quality was so excellent, the critical performance was only evaluated within the framework of late ZEP. Still, it may be fortunate that it is now highly rated among enthusiasts. Rather, in that the new live sound that the latter half of ZEP was originally aiming for was gathered in these two days, I declare that it is a very important sound source not only in terms of content but also historically. ZEP, who had been inactive since the summer of 1977 due to the misfortune that happened to Robert Plant, decided to take the next step after completing "IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR," which ended up being their last album. Of course, it is a return to the live stage. However, while they were on hiatus, the flow of the rock world was changing dramatically. The great thing about ZEP is that they have always created music that is in line with the changing times. So they drastically changed their sound style on stage. In other words, it's "speedy and compact." A tight and sharp groove that is completely different from the previous ZEP. The sound we aimed for came to fruition in two days in Copenhagen. It's true that the 23rd was the first day of the show, so there was an atmosphere of surprise throughout the band. You can feel the laid-back atmosphere between the songs. It's no wonder that this is their first live stage performance in a while. Compared to the next day, which is even called the "last great performance" among enthusiasts, the roughness is certainly noticeable. The cause of that bad impression is Page's blatantly perfunctory play in "Stairway To Heaven." This is obvious from the intro, and the guitar solo at the end, which should have been the climax, is also lackluster. Compared to this, there is something funny about the way the phrases played in the interlude of "Misty Mountain Hop" are off. The good thing about this day is that the performance is full of energy, so even if there are mistakes, it doesn't seem like they're upset. In other words, "Stairway To Heaven" has something that is difficult to do, but the mistakes in "Misty Mountain ~" felt like they were laughing at it. Another good thing about the 23rd was that, despite the lack of cohesion, it was clear that everyone was trying their best to play. In particular, the plant is wonderful, and the ending of "No Quarter", which has a compact performance, concludes with a shout that can be called a masterpiece. Yes, it goes beyond the obvious roughness and fully entertains with a lively momentum. On a stage where the focus was basically on warming up and then returning to the stage, it would be a big deal if they could listen to this much. The last great performance on the 24th is finally amazing. As a result, this was the live show where the latter half of ZEP functioned perfectly and showed their true potential. Above all, the feeling of fumbling from the previous day has been completely dispelled, and the great sound quality is that you can clearly see that everyone is devoted to playing on stage without hesitation. From the first few songs, there is an overwhelming momentum, and from the fact that the repertoire has been increased from the previous day, it seems that they were regaining their live instincts and confidence, as well as the warm-up. There is a desire to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. However, on this day, instead of relaxing, the performance was suddenly hot. Speaking of hot, it has been common for Page to start playing the intro in a messy manner since Knebworth, but the fact that he started playing the intro of the new song "Hot Dog" in the most careful way in ZEP's live history shows how excellent his performance was on this day. This is a scene where you can get a glimpse of Taka. Not only this song, but Page's feeling of ``playing'' that comes through throughout this live performance is a major factor that greatly improves the performance at the show on the 24th. Page's guitar play tended to be sluggish in the latter half of ZEP. In addition to that, the other three are also doing well. In fact, Bonzo was in great shape both days, and even Knebworth was as good as he was. Then there was “Stairway To Heaven,” which was suddenly played more carefully than the previous day, and “Whole Lotta,” where the unique Knebworth arrangement, which switched to an odd time signature in the middle, was performed for the first time (although it was a little disorganized). The state of ZEP, which advanced to the next stage because it felt a response the day before, such as "Love", has been realistically recorded by audience recording boasting outstanding clarity. And although Copenhagen Two Days has produced many items due to its high sound quality, this time we will use a version that has been transferred directly from the master tape that has appeared on the internet in recent years. Surprisingly, this version was never released, and this is the first release. Of course, this is a famous sound source that boasts outstanding high sound quality, so there is no dramatic improvement in sound quality this time. However, unlike past items that were equalized to further improve the high sound quality, this time we have recorded without such tricks, respecting the clean and natural state. Please thoroughly enjoy the dynamism of late ZEP, which can be called the miracle of Copenhagen, with the outstanding freshness that can only be achieved by natural recording from the master, such as naturally extending highs and lows that are not overly boosted!
