ZEP Speaking of San Bernardino in 1969, it's the day when enthusiasts think, "Oh, Jimmy's guitar is the source of the explosive sound." Certainly, the volume of Jimmy's guitar captured by this sound source is saturated, and the opening "The Train Kept A Rollin'" is completely saturated. From that image, I think there was a strong impression that it was a 1969 live sound source for enthusiasts. As evidence of this, there are not many original sound sources, and it is said that it was even released as a bonus on the 1969 Central Park release. It is certainly a sound source with a strong impression that Jimmy's guitar resonates with a distorted explosion, but the problem that amplified the distortion was the generation drop due to the cassette trade. Not only with this sound source, but with cassette trading, the phenomenon that the sound becomes rough due to repeated dubbing inevitably occurs. If it becomes a sound source like San Bernardino in 1969, I think it will come out as completely evil. It was one of the live recordings from 1969 that was often overlooked in many ways, but this month, a low-gen version of San Bernardino from 1969 suddenly appeared on the internet. The person who uploaded it was Krw_co, a well-known name in the trader world. He has released many vintage sound sources so far. This year, there are many excavations from the 1969 summer American tour, but I was pleasantly surprised that this San Bernardino will also follow this trend and an upper version will appear. As expected, the freshness is outstanding compared to the outdated versions that have been circulating so far, and it is noteworthy that Jimmy's guitar has evolved into a state that can be heard properly even though it is saturated. It's probably a point. Because of this condition, it is not something that could be heard if you add bad equalization (this is also the reason why there are few items in the past), but rather a typical sound source that should maintain its natural texture. However, with the benefit of this first generation copy, the freshness has clearly improved. Of course, the cuts are also minimal compared to the existing ones. It's really interesting to listen to the 1969 San Bernardino in this updated version. Even though you can hear the cheers in the audience recording where Jimmy doesn't play, as soon as he starts playing, the guitar sound dominates. What position did he record it from? Fortunately, thanks to ZEP's live structure in the summer of 1969, the entire live performance was not covered by Jimmy's guitar, and when it comes to slow and fast performances, he is far below Robert. , I can also hear the other three people. Even more fortunately, Jimmy broke the strings of his beloved Les Paul during "I Can't Quit You," and "You Gotta Move," a quick-witted blues cover, was released in Stockholm in March. It was his first appearance since the radio broadcast of ``Jimmy cut the strings at that time as well.'' Here, it was performed by three people until the ending, so unlike other songs where Jimmy's sound is loud, we can enjoy the band's performance on this day, even if for a short time. It's also a cool performance that makes it hard to believe that it's just a part-time job, and it's a scene that makes you realize that it's a 69-year-old ZEP.I thought it might be tough to hear Jimmy's solo performance of "White Summer" with this well-balanced recording. At this point, it seems that the reel was changed, and when he started playing, there was a cut. Ironically, it turned into a disaster... or something like that. It's interesting that the performance develops in various directions, and when Jimmy stops playing "How Many More Times", Robert starts singing an unexpected song. He seemed to be in the mood to sing Chuck Berry that day, and rarely brought out passages from ``Schooldays'' and ``Hail Hail Rock 'N' Roll.'' Also, early August was a valuable time when the bass drum was introduced into Bonzo's stage set, and it is also valuable to hear the kick that makes use of the double bass at the ending of this song. And this day's live was a double bill with Jerro Tull, but the performance of two songs left by the same taper was recorded as a bonus. The fact that it includes their performances can also be called a proof of the low generation version. For this release, we haven't made any changes to the sound quality for the reasons mentioned above, but we have carefully adjusted the pitch that gradually goes out of order, and this part alone is much easier to listen to than the previous release. . However, the sound quality itself has also improved. The hurdle to listening to the 1969 audience, known for its explosive Jimmy, has finally lowered!
