Since the release of Mike Millard Master by JEMS was resumed, the focus has been on the excavation of sound sources from the later years of his recording career, but for the first time in a long time, the mirrored master from the 1977 LA Forum consecutive performances of Led Zeppelin, which is long awaited by enthusiasts around the world, has been released! The recording date of interest is... June 27th. Yes, it is the day when nostalgic masterpieces such as "FAREWELL TO L.A.", "DEEP STRIKER" and "COHERENCE" were produced, and in recent years "LOS ANGELES 1977 FINAL NIGHT" and "THE LAST" have been considered the best. Above all, it can be said that it is a representative day of the tour from both the sound quality and performance aspects as a monumental recording produced by Millard from the 1977 LA performance, along with "Eddie", and it is a day that the excavation of the mirrored master was longed for. Among the many items that have been produced as Miller's famous recordings and performances, "LOS ANGELES 1977 FINAL NIGHT", based on a first generation copy, can be said to be the definitive version, and as a confirmation of this, it was a masterpiece that sold out in the blink of an eye as soon as it was released. In other words, it is a super classic Miller recording, but the current title had disappeared from the market in an impossible situation, so the word "craving" fits this excavation perfectly. At the stage of "LOS ANGELES 1977 FINAL NIGHT", there was already a sense that the items of this recording had been perfected, but the master tape shows the difference mercilessly. It is obvious at first listen, and the delicate, clear, and yet relaxed sound quality of this time has swept away all the items released in the past in an instant. Even that "LOS ANGELES 1977~" sounds frustrating as if it were wrapped in a veil in front of this master. In addition, since it was the last day of the six performances, Millard was able to record this day with outstanding stability more than ever before because he had been to the same venue and recorded it. The stability was also made even more unshakable by recording from the master. However, when the master was converted to DAT this time, for some reason only "Trampled Underfoot" was not recorded, and this song was recorded from the first generation copy, but it is also wonderful that it fits seamlessly with the latest technology in 2024. And above all, the performance on this day was really wonderful. Since it was the last day of the consecutive performances held at the LA Forum, which the members themselves love, they were full of the spirit to make it a special time, and for example, from the scene where Jimmy starts playing the intro of "Over The Hills And Far Away", you can see that he is clearly in a special mode, such as playing an interlude-like phrase that is different from usual. Even if we take just one such scene, it was one of the days when Jimmy was "playing" in 1977, and the mirrored recording of this day captured Jimmy's playing with such closeness and sharp contours that it was almost like a soundboard. The opening pattern of Bonzo, like "Eddie", is certainly attractive, but on this day, everyone's playing was also a big attraction. Another feature of the recording of this day is that the audience brought in a whistle that sounds "piyopiyo" at various points, which can be heard many times between songs, and this was clearly heard by the members on stage, and finally, in front of "Going To California", Plant mentioned in the MC, "I wonder if there's a guy who brought a whistle that makes a strange sound." As mentioned earlier, Jimmy's good performance is outstanding, and even in "No Quarter", the blues development is transformed into a jazzy pattern. No matter how Jonesy played, Jimmy was able to keep up, which led to the first great performance of the day. The performance lasted over 30 minutes, but it didn't feel long at all. Also, in his guitar solo, he played the phrase "America" from "WEST SIDE STORY", which was interesting. And the rare acoustic corner is amazing. Jimmy changed the tuning during the performance and started "Dancing Days", which I'm amazed no matter how many times I listen to it. Also, during Jimmy's long guitar solo, Bonzo's drumming, reminiscent of "Eddie", appears in "Achilles Last Stand", which may have been done in the dressing room, but the sharpness of the song is amazing. Thus, the master tape of the last day of LA in 1977, which was a great performance that was full of highlights from the opening to the ending, and Millard's best work is clear, has finally been unearthed. The first ZEP shocking sound source of the year is one of the best mirrored recordings that not only enthusiasts but also families should listen to at the level of one piece, and the definitive version is finally released!
