While "BONZO'S BIRTHDAY PARTY: BARRY GOLDSTEIN MASTER CASSETTES," a stunning upgrade of the legendary Bonzo's "source 3" recording by Barry Goldstein, has been met with rave reviews, it's only natural that requests for a new, best-of soundboard version of this performance have been inundated. The decision was made to release Bonzo's Birthday primarily on SBD. Of course, audience recordings are essential to recreating the entire live performance. This SBD portion first appeared on the nostalgic "BONZO'S BIRTHDAY PRESENTS" at the end of the century, and full-length versions subsequently appeared on EV and Watchtower. However, it was ultimately revealed that this was not a complete live recording. One major drawback is the omission of Plant's performance of "Happy Birthday Bonzo." While various hybrid SBD and AUD compilations have been released, the 2017 edition, which was highly praised by enthusiasts at the time of its release, remains the best of the many Bonzo's Birthday releases. Nearly 10 years have passed since that release, and a new hybrid edited best version has been eagerly awaited. While the main SBD section remains the same as the 2017 release, the phase, which was significantly shifted to the right from the beginning of the live performance through "Rain Song" on the previous release, has been corrected to provide unprecedented stability. This was a surprisingly overlooked issue, and the difference is clearly noticeable when listening with headphones. Of course, the pitch is accurate throughout. Meanwhile, the Audio section primarily relies on the TMOQ source, "source 1," and must rely on Audio for everything from "Moby Dick," which does not have an SBD recording. Therefore, the long-standing TMOQ source once again dominates the third disc. This is another anchor for the Bonn release. However, with the recent dramatic upgrade of the Goldstein recording, "source 3," there's no reason not to take advantage of it. It was common practice to fill in the opening of "Rock and Roll" with Audio from the beginning of the live performance before SBD recording had even begun. However, the patch from the Goldstein recording, which surpassed the sound quality of "Source 2" due to the previous upgrade, made the sound more listenable than previous releases. In fact, "Source 2" was not used at all in this release! Furthermore, the missing parts of the SBD from the TMOQ source have been extremely smoothed out, with the filling of "The Rain Song" in particular being so precise and smooth that it seems almost unheard at first glance. The smooth finish of this Audio filling, applied throughout, is a stunning achievement that greatly differentiates it from previously released items, and in fact, is a highlight of this release. And the highlight is the finale, "Communication Breakdown," which is captured only in the Goldstein recording. When this was released in 2017, it was accompanied by a note that read, "This song suffers from a disappointing drop in sound quality..." However, the aforementioned upgrade has completely transformed the sound to the point where it's completely sound quality-free, which is surprising. While the same Audio section is used, this time the old TMOQ source is the primary source, offering a different texture to the highly acclaimed "BONZO'S BIRTHDAY PARTY: BARRY GOLDSTEIN MASTER CASSETTES" and allowing for a more enjoyable second half of the live performance. Yet, with the main focus on SBD, this new Bon Tan best album is compiled in an easy-to-listen-to format! Based on the classic Bon Tan SB, gaps are appropriately filled in with AUD sources! The phase shift, which was significantly off to the right from the beginning to "Rain" on the previous release, has been improved. Since the SB only goes up to Heaven, Disc 3 is entirely AUD. The AUD source on Disc 3 is primarily Src1. The Forum, Inglewood, CA, USA 31st May 1973 SBD/AUD UPGRADE!!! A new Bon Tan best album! SOUNDBOARD RECORDING Disc 1 (63:21) 01. Intro. 02.
