While ZEP's 1971 BBC live performance was released as a new compilation, the classic "BBC SESSION 1971," their other BBC performance in 1969, has not been fully compiled, and in fact seems to have been overlooked. Unlike the 1971 broadcast, it was mono, but this also boasts the highest quality soundboard recordings, and valuable repertoire exists. The arrival of a new compilation of BBC sound sources from that era was eagerly awaited. At this time, the familiar "Krw_co" broadcast masters, the so-called "Pre-FM" high-quality sound sources, were released for each program. For this release, ZEP specialists have re-examined and compiled them into a single, literally new compilation. Countless items have been released for this broadcast, originally due to the superior sound quality of the mono soundboard. However, even items that have become popular among enthusiasts in recent years have undergone significant equalization, and many have remained unreleased for over a decade. Compared to those previous releases, the "Krw_co" version features no equalization, resulting in a natural and mellow sound quality that's immediately apparent. This is most evident on "TASTY POP SUNDAE," recorded on June 19th, which featured rare tracks like "The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair" and "Something Else." Comparing these two tracks to past compilations makes it immediately clear that this release has a more natural and mellow sound, reminiscent of a 1969 BBC broadcast. Of course, the sound quality of various official releases, remastered for general release, is out of the question. Listening to the natural and straightforward sound quality of "TOP GEAR," also recorded in June, which was a particularly prominent BBC appearance in 1969 due to its live performance in front of an audience, reveals that previously released complete BBC session titles had been processed to make the bass sound louder. The only album notable for featuring unreleased tracks is "ALEXIS KORNER'S "RHYTHM & BLUES," which lacks a pre-FM recording. This release, however, is based on a recording from an air check recording from that time. However, it's worth noting that the highlight, "Sunshine Woman," sounds rougher but better than the muffled sound of previous releases. The previous releases sounded significantly muffled compared to this version. The second disc also includes the acoustic version of "White Summer," performed by Jimmy during his solo BBC television appearance in 1970, in the best possible quality. This truly perfect compilation of Zep's performances for the BBC from 1969 to 1970 is a testament to the work of Zep specialists. ZEP's 1969 BBC radio appearances were concentrated during the group's creative peak in the first half of the year, resulting in a valuable record that showcased the band's forays into new material, such as "The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair," "Something Else," and "Sunshine Woman." They even performed the unreleased "Whole Lotta Love." This is a valuable recording capturing ZEP in their prime on a premium mono soundboard. Compiled from what is believed to be Krw_co's pre-FM reel recordings, this recording features phase, bandwidth, and noise reduction. No compression is applied overall, with a wide range. Especially on the March 19th performance (only this one is on AM radio), high-frequency noises such as hum and high-pitched squeals are removed as much as possible.
