Larry Graham developed the chopper bass by applying the slapping technique of the upright bass. He was Sly Stone's original bassist, and he first performed it on the monumental "Thank You," which immediately attracted attention. Shortly after his fight with Sly, he formed his own band, Graham Central Station, and created many funky songs that had a string of hits. To be honest, the songs he made after GCS are darker and funkier than Sly's series of songs (although in the 1980s, he became mainly ballads). There are many videos of Larry Graham from the late 1990s when he started working with Prince, but there are very few from the 1970s, so everyone was eager to see videos of him at the height of his power. This time, we have gathered up the videos from the 1970s and released them. In any case, the first half of GCS's performance is not just about Larry carrying the framework of Sly, but also about him trying to open up a new era of funk, and it gives you goosebumps. Also, the studio clip of "Feel The Need" from 1975 introduces the band with Japanese subtitles, so it must have been broadcast in Japan, but it is very valuable. And while Soul Train is unfortunately lip-synced, the space funk "Paw" has the best visuals. Sly's sister Rose Stone participated in the live performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1997. In "The Jam," it is rare that each member introduces themselves, rather than Larry introducing them. This is the video before they started performing live with Prince, so if you only know Larry with Prince, there are many interesting parts. Sly's performance of leaving the audience behind is also a must-see. And the representative video with Prince is Septimo from 1999. Prince is more impressive than Larry, but that's just the way it is. Larry's bass playing, his natural beautiful voice, and the GCS band ensemble will give you goosebumps.
