Larry Coryell/NY,USA 1975

This is a soundboard live sound source of Larry Coryell's heyday at Eleventh House in 1975. It's a live show, but since it's in a studio, the audience is small, so at best it's easy to listen to, but at worst it doesn't have the sense of being there. The venue is Electric Lady Studio, founded by Jimi Hendrix. Coryell is a little less well-known among rock fans than jazz-rock guitarists such as John McLaughlin and Allan Holdsworth, but Eleventh House is a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever, and Weather Report. This is a great band that could really compete with the fusion bands that were all over the place at the time. Of particular note is Alphonse Muzone's high-speed drumming. The funky yet fast-paced snare is a masterpiece, and it drives Coryell's guitar at its peak. The performance is more rock-like and powerful than the fusion bands mentioned above, so it's a must-listen for those who shy away from the sound of "fusion" because they feel it's too soft.
