While "KISSTORY VOLUME ONE/VOLUME TWO" was a collection of footage from 1974-1976, this third installment covers 1977/1978. This three-disc set brings together treasured footage from the "ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour" to his solo albums. Let's take a look at each piece individually. DISC 1: Chapters 1-7 "ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour TV Programs (3 Types)" First up are three TV videos from the "ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour" era. The opening, "January 22, 1977 Chicago Performance," was filmed at the 36th show of the tour, recorded from a master recording on local station WBBM-TV, featuring a vivid time counter. Black fans also appear, providing a tangible glimpse into the reality of the time. The following two shows, "Detroit Performance, January 27, 1977" and "People's Choice Awards, February 10, 1977," were also included on the classic "DETROIT 1977 3RD NIGHT MASTER VIDEO," but they've been re-recorded for the "KISSTORY" series to fully capture the TV footage. DISC 1: Chapter 8: "Hartford Performance, February 16, 1977" 8mm film shot during the second half of the "ROCK & ROLL OVER Tour" (51st performance out of 70). This is a rare piece of footage with beautiful, clear audio. DISC 1: Chapter 9: "LOVE GUN TV Commercial" This is where we begin the "LOVE GUN" era. First, the album's first TV commercial. DISC 1: Chapter 10: "8mm Film from July 24-August 13, 1977 (4 types)" Powerful 8mm film shot by the same archivist. Filmed at four shows—July 24, 1977, Vancouver; August 11, 1977, Spokane; August 12, 1977, Seattle; and August 13, 1977, Portland—this masterpiece was digitized from the master reels. This ultra-historical footage, packed with impactful footage, includes close-ups of professional shots and rare venue entry scenes. DISC 2: Chapters 1-4, "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert," begins with the legendary TV show "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert." This disc features three tracks from the May 28, 1977, appearance on which "LOVE GUN" was completed: "I Want You," "Love 'Em And Leave 'Em," and "Hard Luck Woman." This is also a different master recording from the official "KISSOLOGY" version, lacking Don Kirschner's narration and instead featuring a production countdown scene. This track is also included on the classic press album "MADISON SQUARE GARDEN FEBRUARY 1977," but while that was digitized from the master reel, this is the TV broadcast version with a different color grading. DISC 2: Chapter 5-6 "LOVE GUN Tour TV Programs (Two Versions)" features two TV programs from the "LOVE GUN Tour." "August 16, 1977, 'The Nightbird'" features a makeup-free interview of KISS enjoying lunch while playing "Rock and Roll All Nite" from their first visit to Japan (though not showing their bare faces is a 70s tradition). The second, "August 1977, 'Land of Hype & Glory'," includes the famous interview plus TV master footage from the LA Forum performance. Unlike the version included on "KISSOLOGY," this is the complete KISS portion. DISC 2: Chapters 7-8 "LOVE GUN Tour Footage (2 Versions)" features 8mm footage from the legendary August 24, 1977, LA Forum concert. Transferred from the master reel provided by LA archivist Richard Renga, it's stunningly beautiful. Unfortunately, it's a silent film, and while this release is silent, it boasts exceptional visual beauty and historical value. Next up is the September 4, 1977, Fort Worth concert, the final leg of the LOVE GUN Tour. Some of the footage is professionally shot for the "ALIVE II" promo film, complete with audio. While captured on a single camera in the distance, it offers a highlight of "Rock and Roll All Nite," from the drum solo with fireworks erupting to the stage-like rise. DISC 2: Chapters 9-10 "ALIVE II TV Commercials" begins with a TV commercial announcing the album's release. Two different versions are included, both fully official and top-notch. DISC 2: Chapters 11-14 "December 14, 1977 MSG Performance" features four clips from the Madison Square Garden performance, the 18th performance of the "ALIVE II Tour." Shot on 8mm film by an unknown New York taper, the footage is collected from four reels. Despite the distant shots, the footage far exceeds VHS standards, and the audio has been transcribed from the master tape. DISC 2: Chapters 15-16 "KISS RADIO/Figure TV Commercial" features commercials for a KISS-branded radio (one type) and an unreleased Mego doll (two types with different hairstyles). While a lower-quality version was included on "KISS MY ASS THE VIDEO," this release is the master tape version. DISC 2: Chapter 17 "ALIVE II Promo Film" concludes DISC 2 with a promo film for "ALIVE II." While familiar as a bonus feature on the classic "LARGO 1977," this release is a top-quality 4K transfer. DISC 3: Chapters 1-3, "American Music Awards, January 18, 1978," celebrates the new year of 1978. This is the TV broadcast of the "American Music Awards," which he won about a year after the "People's Choice Awards." Enjoy watching him break into the mainstream entertainment world and rapidly gain acceptance. DISC 3: Chapters 4-5, "DOUBLE PLATINUM/Solo Album Commercials," begins his solo album era. These are TV commercials for his best-of album "DOUBLE PLATINUM" and his solo albums. Unlike the lower-quality version of "KISS MY ASS THE VIDEO," this is a different version from the master version. DISC 3: Chapters 6-11, "Solo Album Interviews (3 Types)," feature the first two interviews with Gene. "November 17, 1978, 'The Entertainment Page'" features Gene without makeup and with his face hidden. The following "November 27, 1978, 'The Toni Tennile'" is a pilot episode filmed for TV broadcast, a phantom interview that never aired. It was recorded directly from the TV master. The third, "December 3, 1978, 'News 4'," is a TV program appearance by Paul. He answers the interview in a unique outfit that he never wore on stage. DISC 3: Chapter 12, "Makeup Kit TV Commercial," is a TV commercial for "KISS YOUR FACE MAKE UP," a makeup kit that lets you reply to KISS. This is also seen on "KISS MY ASS THE VIDEO," but this release is taken from the master. DISC 3: Chapter 13, "Gene's In-Store Performance," concludes this big three-disc set with an in-store event featuring Gene Simmons. Although the filming date and location are unknown, this work presents the highest quality master recordings. This masterpiece features 28 different types of footage spanning 3 hours and 29 minutes. This three-disc set, a comprehensive look at the most dazzling years of 1977 and 1978, is part of the KISS video history series of the 1970s, all presented with the highest quality masters provided by researchers.
