KANSAS is a hero of American prog rock, and together with RUSH, they made it known that "prog rock exists in the new world!" The best live in Japan is an unexpected discovery. This work was recorded on “KANSAS GREATEST HITS JAPAN TOUR 2001”. This was held about half a year after the release of their latest work, ``SOMEWHERE TO ELSEWHERE'', and they excited the archipelago with a total of 7 performances, the most in their history of visiting Japan. First, let's take a look at the schedule. ・January 16th: Osaka IMP Hall [This work] ・January 17th: Nagoya BOTTOM LINE ・January 18th: Nagano/Matsumoto M Wing ・January 20th: Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall ・January 21st: Yokohama Bay Hall, January 23rd: Zepp Sendai, January 24th: Aomori, Hachinohe City Public Hall (cancelled), January 25th: Zepp Sapporo There were originally scheduled to be 8 performances, but only the Aomori performance was cancelled. This work is an audience album for the "January 16, 2001, Osaka IMP Hall" performance, which was the first day of the performance... right? this? ...I apologize for the inconvenience. No, in fact, this work is an “audience recording”. The person who recorded it was the recording artist of David Bowie's ``A REALITY IN OSAKA: THE LAST CONCERT IN JAPAN (Wardour-169)'' and Prince's ``ONE NITE ALONE IN OSAKA,'' and the original master who breathed the atmosphere of the scene. is used directly. As has been proven with Bowie and Prince, I knew it was pretty good before I heard it, but it's still way over the top. What came out of the original master was a sound that was far from the image of “audience recording”. The up-close and direct feeling of each instrument is almost a soundboard that is directly connected to the desk. It is often described as ``just like a soundboard,'' but rather it has a dimension that makes you wonder, ``Huh? Isn't it a soundboard?'' Considering the overall balance, do you think the vocals are a little small? I think so, but all the instruments are turned on so hard it's like plugging into your ears. Although the audience's real applause is recorded, the band is much closer than that. I'm especially happy about this sound because it comes from the musician group KANSAS. After all, every single note of each instrument is clear and vivid, and you can even feel the picking nuances of the guitar and the shaking of the cymbals. Moreover, it is poured directly into your ears with no sense of distance. They beautifully separate and weave together a complex ensemble, and you can enjoy the beat that is unique to them, ``it's complicated, so it's good to groove'', and it's extremely vivid. In fact, there are no Kelly Livgren or Dave Hope who participated in “SOMEWHERE TO ELSEWHERE”, but the activities of Steve Walsh and Billy Grier, who more than fill the void, are also wonderful. In particular, Steve plays two keyboards while singing, frequently switching sounds with a foot switch. You can't see his facial expressions from this live album, but according to those who saw him on the day, he played the whole thing without even looking at his hands. You can experience the great success of RUSH's Geddy Lee in super detail. Many of KANSAS's most representative songs will be performed with such superb sound and super ensemble. While focusing on the 3 songs from the two great albums ``LEFTOVERTURE'' and the 4 songs ``POINT OF KNOW RETURN'', we also have popular songs such as ``SONG FOR AMERICA'', ``MASQUE'', and ``AUDIO-VISIONS''! I asked. Only two songs will be played from the new work “SOMEWHERE TO ELSEWHERE”, which is also wonderful. In particular, the colorful performance of "Icarus II" is properly KANSAS. At the end, with the words "Let's go back to 1976!", it leads vividly into "Icarus (Borne On Wings Of Steel)"... Speaking of this period, there is also the official version “DEVICE-VOICE-DRUM”, but it also shows off plenty of “Mysteries and Mayhem”, “Paradox”, “Hold On”, and “Not Man Big” that cannot be heard there. Anyway, "Best in Japan with unusual sound". That's all. It can be called "official grade" because it has a vivid feel all over the place, and "direct-to-table sound board grade" is appropriate. A music album where you can enjoy the exquisite and outstanding ensemble of the original American prog rock band at 100% its original quality. This is a perfect piece that makes you realize once again the obvious things such as ``the original master is amazing'' and ``good sound is good'', and also has ``amazing performances'' and ``good songs.'' Please enjoy this extremely musically advanced live album. Live at IMP Hall, Osaka, Japan 16th January 2001 ULTIMATE SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1(43:02) 1. Intro 2. Mysteries and Mayhem 3.
