JUDAS PRIEST kicked off the special "SHIELD OF PAIN Tour" celebrating the 35th anniversary of their masterpiece "PAINKILLER." Here comes a brand new live album, providing a complete picture of the band's intriguing performance. This work captures the "June 18, 2025, Bert Philbel performance." It's a massive audience recording. Speaking of JUDAS PRIEST, their performance in Japan at the end of last year is still fresh in our minds, but that was only the "INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour." It's a different tour with a different theme from the currently ongoing "SHIELD OF PAIN Tour." To explain the situation, let's take a look at their activities since last year. 2024 "INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour" March 11th - April 8th: Europe #1 (16 performances) ← *PARIS 2024, etc. April 18th - May 22nd: North America #1 (21 performances) June 5th - July 24th: Europe #2 (23 performances) September 13th - October 26th: North America #2 (25 performances) December 5th - 13th: Japan (6 performances) ← *TOKYO 2024, etc. 2025 April 16th - May 7th: Latin America (9 performances) "SHIELD OF PAIN Tour" June 12th - July 25th: Europe #3 (22 performances) ←★Here★ September 16th - October 26th: North America #3 (24 performances) This is the schedule for 2024/2025 that has been announced to date. Last month's "Latin America" was the "INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour," and this month's "Europe #3" marked the start of the "SHIELD OF PAIN Tour." The Bad Vilbel performance in this work was the fourth concert, the opening of the tour. This work, which conveys such a show, is an ultra-tight recording with zero echoes. This day also marked Bad Vilbel's signature festival, "Bad Vilbel Hessentag 2025," and the venue was a special outdoor stage. Therefore, there were no ceilings or walls to reflect sound, and the PA directly picked up the output sound. Of course, "outdoor = great recording" is not as simple as it sounds; recording techniques suitable for outdoor use are also required. This work is also perfect in that regard. After all, this work was created by "GManOF," a well-known collector in the collector's community. Hard rock/hard rock collectors may have heard of him as a famous recording from the 1980s, but he is actually an active taper. He excels at recording the thickest sounds of outdoor festivals, and this album is a new masterpiece that fully utilizes his skills, combining an ultra-tight and direct feel. This masterful sound is depicted in the special set for the 35th anniversary of "PAINKILLER," which metal fans around the world have been waiting for. Let's take a look at the whole picture here. Painkiller (7 songs) All Guns Blazing (★) / Hell Patrol (★) / A Touch of Evil (★) / Night Crawler (★★) / One Shot at Glory (★) / Between the Hammer and the Anvil (★) / Painkiller Invincible Shield (3 songs) Gates of Hell (★) / The Serpent and the King (★★) / Giants in the Sky (★★) Others (10 songs) British Steel: Breaking the Law / Metal Gods (★) / Living After Midnight Others: You've Got Another Thing Comin' / Freewheel Burning (★) / Firepower (★) / Solar Angels (★★) / Judas Rising (★) / Electric Eye / Hell Bent for Leather *Note: Songs marked with a "★" are not performed at last year's Japan tour. In particular, songs marked with a "★★" are songs that have been included in the regular set for the first time since Andy Sneap joined the band. ...and so on. The core of the set is, of course, the masterpiece "PAINKILLER"! They performed every song except for "Leather Rebel" and "Metal Meltdown." (The above only includes live performances, so "Battle Hymn" has been omitted, but it does play before "One Shot at Glory.") Looking at each track individually, opening with "All Guns Blazing" is incredibly fresh, and "Night Crawler," rejuvenated with the participation of Andy Sneap, is also fantastic. It feels like they could have just recreated the album in its entirety, but the other tracks also have their merits. I compared this with last year's Japan performance as a representative of the "INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour," and there are so many stars (★) that it's almost a pain to count them all. If you don't bother counting, 14 of the 20 songs in the full set are replacements, and new material from "INVINCIBLE SHIELD" like "The Serpent and the King" and "Giants in the Sky" make their debut appearances. The album also features a wide variety of classics, including "Solar Angels," the first since Rob Halford's return on the "ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION Tour." While it was predicted that "PAINKILLER" would feature prominently, it was hard to imagine the changes coming so far. The "PAINKILLER" 35th anniversary tour is delighting metalheads with its bold set. This is the first report of the tour and a masterpiece album recorded by a renowned collector himself. This is an extremely thick audience recording of the "Bart Filbel performance on June 18, 2025." This latest work, recorded by renowned collector "GManOF," boasts an ultra-tight recording with zero echoes, unique to outdoor performances, and a wonderful direct feel. This is the latest live album that lets you experience the special "PAINKILLER" 35th anniversary set in real time.
