The long-awaited release of the professional shot of Jon Lord's special live performance "Rock Meets Classic" held in Munich, Germany in June 1974 has been decided! At that time, the live performance where John performed with classical music was famous for both the audio and video of his solo album "WINDOWS", but this work is different from that. It is an official-class one that will surprise even avid PURPLE fans! In June 1974, when the third period of DEEP PURPLE, which released "BURN", had completed its US and UK tours and established its popularity with a different charm from the second period, John performed "Bach's Unfinished Fugue" and "Windows Suite" at the awards ceremony of the "Eurovision Festival" held in Munich, and the footage of that time became the official work "WINDOWS". In this "WINDOWS", John, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, and Pete York performed on the same stage as the orchestra. However, this video, which was broadcast on German television at the same time, depicts the encounter between rock and classical music from a completely different angle than that of "WINDOWS." In this video, John and the orchestra are performing in different rooms, and the footage of both performances is combined to recreate Mozart's "Kronungsmesse" (although not the entire piece), making it a very experimental and original piece. However, the members playing with John are the same as those in "WINDOWS," including Coverdale, Glenn, York, Ray Fenwick, and Tony Ashton, so this video is likely based on a "WINDOWS" rehearsal or a project that was progressing at the same time. The orchestra is also conducted by Eberhard Schöner, just like in "WINDOWS." Even if you're not a fan, you'll be fascinated by the scene where John sets up his equipment while the orchestra plays in the background. Furthermore, the scene where John and Ashton play piano and organ side by side is reminiscent of their album "FIRST OF THE BIG BANDS" produced at the same time, and later PAL. In the scene where Coverdale and Glenn sing immediately after joining PURPLE, the figures of both are shown in close-up, surprising fans. There is probably no other professional shot that depicts them in 1974 with such clarity and quality, other than "California Jam". At the end, the performance of John, York, Fenwick, and others heats up against the backdrop of the singing voices of the boys' choir, which is featured heavily. The moment when John smiles with satisfaction immediately after finishing the performance will be unforgettable for fans. At the end, the scene of the equipment being removed is also included, and the mood of "one project is over" can be firmly felt (York polishing the cymbals is also a must-see). If you already have the audio and video of John's solo work "WINDOWS," it will be even more interesting to compare them. This work, which is 40 minutes long and comes with an original menu, is definitely a must-see for PURPLE enthusiasts. This is a special video that you should definitely get at this opportunity!
