John McLaughlin Trio John McLaughlin/NY,USA 1991 Early Show Complete

From the 1991 North American tour of the trio, the early show at Bottom Line in New York on July 3rd was recorded in full for an hour and a half, with the latest digital remastering applied to the audience master released by taper in recent years. First of all, live recordings of this trio are limited, with only a few recordings from the following year, 1992, in circulation, and this was after the release of the album "Que Alegria". The members are Dominic Di Piazza on bass and Trilok Gurz on percussion, who is from Bombay, India and often collaborates with ECM musicians. The performance, with the same lineup as the album, overwhelmed the audience with a variety of patterns from delicate playing featuring acoustic guitar to transcendent playing using MIDI guitar synths, from acoustic to electric. The complex and exotic percussion of Indian musician Trilok Gurtz, who would later become an indispensable presence for McLaughlin, is a perfect match with Piazza's precise bass supporting it, and the balance between Dominic's bass, which seems to echo Trilok's percussion, and John's acoustic guitar is exquisite.
