While he was actively engaged in various bands and solo endeavors throughout the '80s, this 79-minute recording features a February 10th concert in Vienna, Austria, from a 1985 European tour with his short-lived unit "Mahavishnu." This rare live performance, recorded in its entirety via stereo soundboard recording, was digitally rebroadcast in 2025. Naturally, this rare live performance is of a quality that could easily be released as is. First, the five-piece band performance features McLaughlin's Synclavier guitar, creating a unique style of playing that could not be achieved with conventional guitar or guitar synth, particularly on the signature track "Pacific Express."
