Heavy. A documentary masterpiece with a message so heavy that it resonates with the heart will be released in March 2022. The main characters of this work are John Lennon and Yoko Ono. This is a DVD that digitized the Japanese TV special "I Know It" that focuses on the two of them. The other day, "THE LIFE OF LINDA McCARTNEY", which depicted "Paul after the Beatles" through Linda McCartney's life, was very well received, and this work is the "John edition" of that. The Linda special was in 1999, but this work was broadcast two years later. It was November 2001. Why John and Yoko in 2001? It is revealed from the moment the program begins. At that time, it was just after the September 11 attacks, and the whole of America was on fire with excitement. In the midst of all this, on September 13th, a one-line front-page advertisement was published in the Sunday edition of the New York Times. That is... "Imagine all the people living life in peace" Yoko Ono, who lived in New York, the epicenter of the disaster, sent a message that caused radio stations to be inundated with requests for "Imagine." The government then asked for the song to be refrained from being aired. And this program was broadcast two months later. It was also a response to the tribute concert "DREAM POWER" held on John's birthday (October 9th) in 2001. (By the way, in this opening part, "Imagine" is played as a song of hope, but in contrast, AC/DC's "Hells Bells" is used as a symbol of unrest. The contrast between John and AC/DC is a bit interesting.) A masterpiece documentary that also includes interviews unique to the program If you have seen the Linda edition, you will know what I mean, but the program is structured in a style that alternates between documentary VTR and guest talk. In the talk corner, in addition to Sanae Fuji and Hisaishi, who also appeared in the Linda edition, the late Hiro Uchida also appears, but the documentary is still wonderful. The program, which began with the message of "Imagine," turns back the clock to the two's first meeting. The two's meeting and relationship, which resonated through avant-garde works, the poetry collection that inspired "Imagine," the collapse of the Beatles at the end and their breakup, and the bashing from all over the world... The situation depicted in the Linda episode is told from the perspective of John and Yoko. Although the situation is the same as the Linda episode, the impression is different, probably due to her own character. In this program, not only the records of that time but also Yoko from 2001 appears. The program's original interview is inserted. Not only is Yoko's perspective interesting, but Yoko's style explodes as usual. For example, in response to the bashing, she commented, "I can't stand the idea that John found me sex appealing anymore. Especially with British and Western people." This is in contrast to Linda, who was portrayed as an aesthetic of silence, like the British royal family. The relationship between the two is depicted in detail, even down to their upbringing. John and Yoko deepened their bond despite facing the lack of understanding from the world. In order to depict their psychology, the program goes back to their upbringing. John's father left home at the age of two, and he lost his mother's love at the age of five. Yoko was born into a wealthy family, but grew up alone in a home without parents. The two devoted themselves to music and art to fill that loneliness, but still managed to quench the thirst that could not be filled by them. At first glance, the mysterious relationship between these eccentric people feels like a warm and loving one. The program's clock then returns to "post-Beatles," tracing their anti-war activities and resumption of their musical activities, the birth of Sean, and their life in Japan. John and Yoko were finally enveloped in happiness, but then December 8, 1980 came. The clock does not stop there, and the Iran-Iraq War (1980) and the Gulf War (1991) are depicted, and it goes back to the terrorist attacks of 2001. The narrator begins to speak in a tense and uneasy atmosphere. "The year 2001 began with the hope of a new era as the 21st century began. It has been 21 years since John passed away. The unimaginable nightmare strikes New York, which boasted prosperity in the 20th century. The American people are seething with anger and begin to prepare for retaliation. But at that moment, what rises from the people is..." Then "Imagine" plays. The soothing melody gently seeps into your heart and the program closes. Another 21 years have passed since this program. With the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Taliban has returned to power, and Russia has invaded Ukraine. We are facing the threat of World War III, far beyond the dangerous year of 2001. It has not even been a month since "Imagine" was played at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, but it feels like a distant memory. The message of this film and "Imagine" resonates so deeply and gently because of the stinging fear and anxiety that burn our skin. John's prayer for love and peace. A documentary about John and Yoko's journey has been released. This special program with a message of peace was produced immediately after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, and is a masterpiece that is both profound and gentle, even in this day and age when the danger of World War III is being whispered about.
