50 years since John Lennon's birth and 10 years since his death. A special TV program that was broadcast in 1990, which marks this turning point, has been decided to be released. This work contains a two-hour Japanese program that was broadcast on December 10, 1990. This is a disc that contains a special John Lennon memorial program from "Kodawari TV PRE★STAGE". The program was broadcast in a late-night slot on a certain commercial broadcaster for four full years from 1988, and this episode was broadcast two days after John's 10th anniversary. The biggest point of this work is the "atmosphere of the times" 10 years after John's death. However, the quality that conveys this is also wonderful. In our shop, we have introduced many TV programs recorded by core recording enthusiasts in Japan, and this work is one of those collections. The passion for "preservation" is extraordinary. Not only are they particular about the high-end equipment and reception environment at the time of broadcasting, but it is amazing that they have continued to maintain that quality. The master cassette we received is shiny and exactly as it was at the time, and the tape is in perfect condition with no twists or distortions. It was probably never played, but that alone doesn't explain it. It must have been thoroughly controlled, even down to the temperature and humidity... Such is the beauty of the footage. The quality of the footage brings back to life the "real 1990s" is amazing. The show features many guests talking about their feelings for John and the Beatles, while playing clips and live footage related to John. Although the footage itself is often familiar, the guests are a distinguished line-up. A big-name translator, a big name in the folk scene/new music, and a composer who was all the rage at the time on "Ika-ten". A collection of illustrations from when John was learning Japanese and the testimony of a cameraman who spent time with his family are also introduced, giving us a glimpse into John's personality. At the time, terrestrial TV programs were typically filled with nonsensical idols and celebrities who were only famous for their lack of talent, but this show is different. The thoughts of people whose lives were changed by the Beatles and John are written down in their raw voices. Moreover, the word is exquisitely "1990". The fact that it is not overly sad makes you feel the "10 years", but more than that, the state of the world is also visible. The translator laments the peace-loving John, saying, "When the problems between Kuwait and America surfaced...", and the marine mammal female folk singer also says, "I have never had a year that made me think so deeply about what peace means to me as much as this year." This broadcast was one month before the outbreak of the Gulf War, and a multinational force was formed to counter Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. It was a tense time, wondering whether the attack would begin today or tomorrow. While such an atmosphere is glimpsed, the film also has a scent of the bubble era. From the beginning, a woman in a one-length bodycon poses, her ears sparkling with earrings so big they look like they might burst. Even more striking is the regular corner that is sandwiched between the John Lennon special features. The program introduces a supernatural parking technique (?), Christmas lights that decorate an entire mountain (??), and the process of serving agar (!?!). The pointless nonsense and the ridiculously large scale of it all...there is a manic-depressive gap with the main "John Lennon Memorial". This is so intensely "1990". The commercials that are sandwiched between the programs are also amazing. A cigarette commercial that is unthinkable today is aired openly, and the latest models such as Japanese word processors, walkie-talkies, Walkmans with wireless remote controls, and 50-inch projection TVs (the ones that project faint images with a built-in projector) are lined up. Of course, the celebrities are also full of the feeling of the time, with the first actress who quit being a "depraved detective" advertising glasses, a trendy actress who has been proposed to 101 times holding a stereo passport-sized camera, and the "School Festival Queen" who has taken out 100 million yen insurance on her eyes muttering, "The Tale of the Three Cities begins..." Of course, this is not the "Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya" that Green Raccoon recently mentioned, but JR West's original "Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe". I've gone off topic a bit, but the essence of this work is John's music that sounds in this era. This is in intense sync with "now". If you suddenly think about it, it's frustrating that even though we know that darkness is approaching, it's so suspicious that it's called a "national crisis", and we can't feel it with our skin. John's message that flows through it... it's as if John is speaking to "us now". It's been 37 years since John left the world. But the music and message he left behind are still real. This is a masterpiece TV program that teaches us that. It's a piece that exudes a strong sense of nostalgia, but pierces the heart precisely because it's "now". Broadcast Date: 10th December 1990 1.
