A special program on John Lennon's Japan broadcast in 1984 is here. This program was a special program on the music program "Super Station" on a certain commercial broadcasting station, calling for an activity fund to build a bronze statue of John. This program was recorded by a domestic Western music recording enthusiast. We offer a large number of materials recorded by this enthusiast, and the quality is extraordinary. They use high-end equipment from each era, and the preservation is perfect. They continue to archive the history of Western music in Japan with high-quality footage that makes you wonder "Is it a laser disc? Is it a broadcasting station master?" This work is one of such a treasured collection. This work is a strong piece in such a collection. The program is amazing, no matter what you say. It is a legendary program that is named with a wry smile by those who watched it in real time at the time, and the production is just "cold". "Telephone booths" and "Telex booths" are installed, and the setting is that five female staff members (called "crews") who probably don't know anything collect the latest information from overseas. Each person greeted with a tone that seemed to say, "We'll find out!", but still, they looked at the cue card and stumbled over their words. Every time they blurted out something like, "This is information from Liz in L.A...", I wanted to ask, "What's that?" or "Are you guys the Science Patrol?". The atmosphere was strange, with the English words being strangely fluent in Ru○shiba's style, but they were not trying to make people laugh, and the strange white mannequins lined up behind them were also a question mark. The program may have been intended to be "artistic", but no matter how you look at it, it was a low-budget program that was simply borrowed from the station's art department... Moreover, this episode had a mood like "super cheap 24-hour TV" because it was a call for donations to build a bronze statue. It was a campaign in which people who participated in the fund would have their names engraved on the statue, and the artist who created the statue and ordinary people who were supposed to be "representatives of the fans" were also featured, and they were really stirring things up. Perhaps this ordinary person was nervous, because when asked about John's charm, all he could say was, "I liked his glasses" and "It's the atmosphere he has." He talks to these ordinary people about the statue, gets them to say, "I'd love to join," "I'm so happy to think I can meet John in New York anytime," and "I'd be so happy if I could have my name carved into this statue," and then adds, "This movement is not just for Lennon fans, but for all music fans!" It's almost like a late-night TV shopping show. Who wrote this script? Just to be clear, Brett L. Strong, who created this statue, is a person who works on Hollywood actors and celebrities, and the following year Strawberry Fields will actually open in Central Park (the statue installed seems to be different). It's not a suspicious movement at all (it should be), but when watching this film, the doubt crosses my mind: "Is this really the same movement as Strawberry Fields?" A number of wonderful promotional clips are also shown, but the subtitle "The cost of engraving your name on the monument and the 5,000 yen contribution for the purchase of marble, etc. ..." makes me feel a little awkward... The final blow to my heart, already shaken by such volatility, is the sponsorship notice from a consumer finance company. No, it's not a program that solicits donations all year round, and the sponsors are the same as always. It's not suspicious. It's just a coincidence. It's not suspicious... I'm so hooked that I keep telling myself that. This is a video that explodes with a strong mood that is indescribable "only in 1984" and "only in this program". A masterpiece video where the Japanese media's inconsistency and feelings towards John clash. It tickles the heart and sends tingling sensations down my spine. Broadcast in Japan 1984 (24:49) 1.
