At the end of 1981, exactly one year after John Lennon's death, the first and second days of the special program "BBC John Lennon Special" were broadcast on national radio for five consecutive nights, and this is a must-listen title for fans, recorded for a total of two hours, about one hour each. On December 6, two days before John's death, BBC's Andy Peebles interviewed John and Yoko for 3 hours and 20 minutes, which the BBC edited into five special programs, and this was arranged for broadcast in Japan. The life work and memories that John himself told just before his death are familiar to fans, but they are very worth listening to. Even though a year has passed, John's death is still a very real event for fans at the time, and the broadcast at this time, when memories of the incident are still fresh, gives a different atmosphere and feel to modern memorial programs. The Japanese radio host, who introduced the tribute program that the BBC had carefully created based on this precious interview tape, was a representative rock DJ from Japan, known for Young Jockey and Sound Street, and his calm narration and analysis, typical of a famous critic, made the program even deeper and more fascinating. The interview took place over three hours with Andy in front of him, along with John and Yoko. The first episode covered their early activities, their meeting, Two Virgins, Cambridge 1969, peace activities, and Live Peace in Toronto. The second episode was mainly a Q&A session on each song, with the themes of Cold Turkey, Don't Worry Kyoko, Mother, God, Power To The People, Imagine, and How Do You Sleep?, and each part was very densely covered. As the DJ commented, John was very talkative that day, and everyone would be drawn in by his very clear, humorous, and witty narration. As mentioned above, what makes this program deeper, more appealing, and enjoyable for everyone is the narration by the Japanese DJs, which is easy to understand and of very high quality. The overall structure is carefully designed so that even those who are not good at English can enjoy it, and at the same time, the voices of John and Yoko are not hindered. The original program is also wonderful, but this take, as the Japanese version, is a must-listen for any fan, and is a highly advanced program. I'm sure there were many fans who listened to this special program, which was broadcast over five nights at the time, with deep emotions. I think that it will bring back real memories, especially for fans in their 40s and 50s.
