Philadelphia was the place where Coltrane performed the most in his life. It was Coltrane's custom to go on tour with the feeling of the fans there in his heart. The longest version of the spectacular live performance with Roy Haynes at the Philly club Showboat, featuring all 8 songs, is now available in the latest remastered definitive edition from three sources! In addition, two master tapes owned by Coltrane's son Ravi will be released for the first time! This performance was recorded by Alan Skonig on a portable tape recorder at the Philadelphia club Showboat. Live at the Showboat Club, Philadelphia, June 24, 1963. This tape is currently kept at the Jazz Research Society of Rutgers University in New Jersey. The sound quality was originally good, and it is said to be one of the best performances of the lineup, and fans and related parties say that it is a great recording that should be officially released. Initially, it was said that this live recording was recorded on either June 10th, 17th, or 24th, but according to Alan, the original recorder, it is recorded as June 24th. However, this date is listed as the date of the Ted Dahl Show in Montreal in the John Coltrane Reference Materials. Therefore, this work is dated June 24th, with an emphasis on the recorder's description. The recordings of this day have been remastered in 2000, 2008, and 2010, and this work brings together the best parts of those three sources and has been remastered with more advanced equipment. This makes Coltrane's sax much richer than before, and Roy Haynes' cymbals can be heard clearly. Also, there were only five songs at first, but the number of songs has gradually increased, and this time it is the longest version with eight songs, which can be said to be almost the complete version, and it is truly the definitive release! ! In addition, the master recordings of two songs from this day owned by Coltrane's son Ravi Coltrane and a short interview with Ravi are also included! ! Right from the beginning, Coltrane's cadenza is a blazing, and the duet with the warrior Haynes lasts more than 10 minutes, or rather a battle! I'm happy that both Trane and Haynes' trademark snare sound are captured to the highest degree. However, it's rare to hear such an extreme performance. This is even more amazing than the Newport live performance of "Selfness" with the same members! The third song, "Up Gainst the Wall," is a tenor offensive in which Trane plays without regard for the other members, and he finally switches to soprano for "The Inch Warm" and plays hard. He then goes straight into "Impressions." He usually switches to tenor halfway through, but the best part of a live performance is when he gets so engrossed in the performance that he plays soprano. McCoy also plays to his heart's content here. In the next song, "I'm a Weaver of Dreams," Trane takes the stage halfway through! His solo becomes a storm of candenzas. Trane continues this momentum in the next song, "MR.PC," where he runs through the sheets of sound with no restraint. Haynes, who never seems to tire, continues to play an overwhelming performance, encouraging and pounding Trane from start to finish! At the end, as if nothing had happened, Trane plays piano for "After the Rain" and the night quietly draws to a close! At the end, there is a 2-minute interview with Ravi about the show.
