Joe Lynn Turner & Orchestra performance for the first time in 12 years. The superb live album is now available for immediate release! This work contains the performance at the Tokai City Arts Theater on February 24, 2018. Joe and the orchestra performed together in 2006, but only once this time. This is an audience recording that absorbed the scene. This concert is a kind of so-called "fusion of rock and classical music" project, but it is much more classical. RAINBOW's masterpieces are performed in an orchestral arrangement, and Joe Lynn Turner sings against the backdrop of this. The arrangement is thoroughly crafted, and the main role is rather the orchestra. Joe (although he is beyond the realm of a guest) is in a position to add some glamour. This is a live album from just three days ago, but it is by no means "too early to be bad". Rather, it is superb and super beautiful sound. Although it is called an "audience recording", it is on a different level from so-called rock recordings. The microphone is used by professionals in classical music, and the position is directly under the microphone set up at the venue. This beautiful recording was made possible by a perfect system specialized for orchestras, rather than relying on a miracle of chance. The recordist who made this possible is the modern master "Western Japan's Strongest Taper". He thoroughly analyzes the acoustics of the venue, the sound output, and the type of fan base for any concert, and records it, but I never thought he would be familiar with classical recordings as well... The sound of this work is a little difficult to describe. A beautiful sound world that cannot be expressed with the vocabulary that has been used to describe rock sounds for many years. Extremely delicate, yet beautiful in its breadth and power. This time, "Overture 1812", dedicated to Cozy, will also be played, and even when the cannon roars with great force (please be careful when listening with headphones), the sound does not crack at all, and the beauty does not move at all. For rock fans, it is "sound like a classical CD". If I use any more words than this, I might degrade the recording... It is a sound that even feels awe. The sound world is depicted with RAINBOW's classic songs that shine classically. The show's content basically follows the 2006 performance, and this time it is divided into two parts. The first part is during the Cozy Powell era, and Joe appears and sings three songs (he appears from the middle of "Eyes Of The World", so strictly speaking, two and a half songs), but the rest is only the orchestra. In the second part, Joe's representative songs are played, and Joe sings the whole time. The show is a storm of emotion from the first part. The serious arrangement and performance are only possible because they are Japanese people who love RAINBOW more than anyone else in the world. Because it has been 30 years since their heyday, the taste of the classics sealed within it is clearly visible while exuding honest respect for rock. And Joe's singing voice singing against that background is really, really wonderful. In the first part, they sing "Eyes of the World", "Catch the Rainbow", and "Rainbow Eyes", and their singing with plenty of voice and delicate vocalization are magnificent. In the 1980s, when he was thin, he was said to be "not good enough to sing the songs of Ronnie and Graham," but his current voice, which has become thick and strong, is not lacking. While his rivals of the same era are losing their former luster, Joe's vocalization is so good that it makes you think that he is at the peak of his career. Joe's singing voice shines even more in the second part. The seven songs performed are the same in selection and order, but the opening is "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," which is more like RAINBOW. And here the mood of the show changes completely. In the first part, Joe, who added flowers to the orchestra, becomes the main character, and he and the conductor actively incite the audience, making them excited. The applause and cheers increase, and the performance moves closer to the rock side. However, even so, the orchestra is serious here. It is completely different from a simple arrangement that just transfers the original instruments, and depicts a dynamic world that is only possible with an orchestra. It is like a magnificent movie music, and if the familiar phrases do not peek out, you will almost forget that it is a RAINBOW song. Who would have thought that the late RAINBOW numbers, which had a strong pop color, would be so dramatic and solemn... And Joe's singing voice is worthy of that magnificent world. He sings more than usual and uses a lot of tension, but his tension is lustrous and strong. While he shows off his amazing singing style that you can't hear anywhere else in all the songs, the highlight is the last song, "Street Of Dreams". He improvises the very end, but the richness of his phrases. What a wonderful voice! He brings a magnificent classical concert to a close with just one voice, and really raises the emotion. Amazing. He's an amazing vocalist. The album closes with applause that can be called "thunder". Joe has often come to Japan with a little too nostalgic melody, such as OVER THE RAINBOW and VOICES OF RAINBOW, but this album is on a completely different level. The orchestra's sincerity overflows with love for RAINBOW, and the singing voice that confronts that sincerity head-on and further enhances the emotion. This collaboration project is probably vocalist Joe Lynn Turner's best work. This masterpiece was recorded with great care after witnessing that miraculous night.
