In 1992, the year after the death of the legendary Miles Davis, Joe Hen released the tribute album "Musicing for Miles," in which he performed Miles's songs with a stellar quartet featuring Holland, Foster, and John Scofield, all of whom were members of Miles's group in the 1960s and 1980s. Following this, a miraculous live performance took place, recorded in its entirety in the finest quality. This definitive, first-ever release features a complete recording of this virtuoso performance, recorded in the highest quality possible by a dedicated sound master recorded by the original artists at the Charles Hotel Ballroom in Boston on May 21, 1993. Only one track overlaps with the previous studio album, and the rest are completely different pieces. The album features intriguing tracks like "Stella By Starlight," "No Blues," "Four," and even "Relaxing at Camarillo," the title track of Joe Henson's signature album, written by Charlie Parker and released in 1979. But it's Joe Henson's tenor that's truly captivating! He delivers a free-spirited, unrestrained, and passionate tenor throughout! The chemistry between Joe Henson and John Scofield, acclaimed on their studio albums, is unmatched, making the piano-less quartet a fitting tribute. While both former members of Miles Davis' band, Dave and Al's collaboration is surprisingly rare, yet they hold a firm foundation, especially Al, who drives the band forward despite the limited number of notes. All the tracks are played at length, and this supreme performance, featuring Joe Henson and other masters of improvisation, weaves authentic jazz with a deep love for Miles Davis. As an aside, after Joe Hen's death in 2001, he performed a tribute live show for Joe Hen with a quartet that included three other musicians and Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone.
