The releases after Jimi Hendrix's death could be described as "prolific," which lasted from the 1970s to the mid-1990s, but it is also true that high-quality compilation albums were released at least in the few years after Jimi's death, before Alan Douglas appeared. The best example of this was "The Cry of Love," which beautifully condensed Jimi's recordings from his later years, but "In the West" is a masterpiece that compiles live recordings into a single LP. Nowadays, it is common for Jimi to release full-length live recordings, but at the time, record companies were particular about releasing single LPs to keep costs down, and "In the West," which was a compilation of live recordings, was a by-product of this situation. The title was reminiscent of the concept of a collection of live performances on the west coast of the United States, but in fact it also included takes from the Isle of Wight and the Royal Albert Hall. As is well known, the release of the RAH recordings was difficult due to movie contracts, so they managed to record them by disguising them as the West Coast "San Diego Sports Arena". In other words, the title is a compilation of West Coast live performances, and there are signs that they were trying to prove that there are no performances from RAH. As expected, this false credit was discovered by the RAH rights holders and the matter went to court, so the current official Jimi reissue of "IN THE WEST" reluctantly decided not to use the RAH take, and the genuine San Diego recording was used. In addition, although it was released under the name of "IN THE WEST", the order of the songs was also changed, which made many enthusiasts wonder, "Can this really be called 'IN THE WEST'?" The original "IN THE WEST" released in 1972 was a wonderful compilation of Jimi's live takes from each era on one LP, and the fact that it included RAH's take, especially the famous performance of "Little Wing", made it a favorite among enthusiasts. There is no trace of it in the current version, and as a result, the value of the original "IN THE WEST" that was released on CD in Japan and Europe in the late 1980s is still preserved. This CD is a reprint of that nostalgic Japanese CD. This is a nostalgic item that allows you to easily enjoy the original form of "IN THE WEST" on CD, with "that song order" and "RAH's take included". After all, "IN THE WEST" has to be in this song order and content!
