The live album from the 1978 Japan tour, which was Jeff Beck's third time in Japan, is being revived. During BB&A in 1973 and 1975 when he was not feeling well, there were only three performances each, but in 1978 the number of performances increased all at once, and the tour toured the archipelago with a total of 10 performances. This work was recorded as an audience album containing the 6th performance “November 28th Fukuoka Nippon Steel Otani Gymnasium Performance”, which is the middle one. In 1978, the participation of the master Stanley Clarke became a hot topic, but in reality, a different member of the group came to Japan than originally planned. Initially, the lineup consisted of Jeff, Stanley, Simon Phillips, and Mike Garson, but Jeff didn't like Mike's playing and was replaced by Tony Hymas. They had just rehearsed for three days before coming to Japan. For this reason, he could not be said to be at his best in the early stages of the Japan tour, but his condition improved as the dates progressed. It is said that the band's ensemble solidified and improved significantly in Nagoya on the 5th day, and around the Fukuoka performance of this work. This work, which includes Jeff's first time in Fukuoka and a memorable live performance with Stanley, was previously released normally. As you can imagine from the background, it is a really wonderful audience recording, and even on this day it is a quality that competes for 1 and 2. Although it does not have a close contact that can be said to be "like a sound board," the clarity of the musical tone is exquisite, and it is a beautiful recording with a direct feeling of a fastball going straight through the space of Nippon Steel Otani Gymnasium. Co-starring with such sounds is breathtaking and wonderful. On this day in particular, not only did the ensemble solidify, but it was also known as a live show that would appeal to enthusiasts, with many interesting details. The set list was the same as the one in Nagoya the day before, but the intro of "Cat Moves" had beautiful harmonics, and the improvisation in the intro of "Journey To Love" was fresh. In "Lopsy Lu", Stanley and Jeff listen to the phrase of Jimi Hendrix's "Third Stone From The Sun", and in "Rock 'n' Roll Jelly" you can enjoy the rare drum intro and Jeff's slide phrase. Of course, "Freeway Jam" and "School Days", in which the four gears mesh together, are also the best. Although the sound is great, it can't be said to be the top of the tour as a whole, and there are some sound breaks in the drum solo. However, it would be a shame to bury it in the darkness of history. To that extent, the number of phrases sealed in this work is dazzling. A live album for those who want to fully enjoy the brilliant collaboration with Stanley, and for those who have always loved Jeff forever. Please add this beautiful record to your collection.
