Surprisingly, live footage of Jeff Beck's 1980 "THERE & BACK" tour, which had never been confirmed to exist until now, has finally been unearthed! The footage of the Santa Barbara performance on September 7th, the beginning of the tour, was shot by bassist Moe Foster's staff using a handheld video camera that was just starting to become popular at the time. Therefore, it is a one-camera, one-angle shot, which one might call an "official audience shot," but the image quality is so good that it is surprising. Because of the shooting conditions, there are no songs recorded in their entirety, and the performance is rather chopped up, but the ease of viewing more than makes up for it. Not only is the image quality so good, but the angles that only someone involved can capture the performance from the wings of the stage from the beginning are also surprising. From the scene of "Cause We've Ended as Lovers," the footage moves to the audience seats, and you can even get a glimpse of the atmosphere of the outdoor venue that day. Among them, another surprising performance scene is "The Golden Road." Although it is a song from the album "THERE & BACK", it even captures the scene where they play the repertoire that was unfortunately only performed a few times at the beginning of the tour. It is true that the melody is slow, so it is undeniable that it did not look good on stage, but who would have thought that the day would come when we could see such a precious performance scene! After that, the shooting back to the side of the stage captures each person's solo rotation at a close angle like a professional shot, which is worth watching. In particular, Simon Phillips and Tony Hymas look really youthful. And above all, the fashion sense of Beck at this time, wearing an aloha shirt over a basic black fashion, is also riveting. The way he uses a Stratocaster and a Telecaster is also unique to 1980. There are many photos of this tour, and it seems that most enthusiasts remember this tour from those photos, but I really can't believe that the day will come when we can finally see the looks and staging unique to that time on video... As mentioned earlier, the performance scenes are basically chopped up, and the total length is only 20 minutes, but the image quality is very good, and the series of amazing scenes makes this an extremely valuable video. In the first half of 2024, the historical excavation of 1975's "MIDNIGHT SPECIAL" surprised enthusiasts around the world, but in the second half, footage of the "THERE & BACK" tour was unearthed. This is a super rare video that Beck enthusiasts around the world must see, without exaggeration! Shocking! This is the first appearance of footage at the level of a historical cultural heritage!
