In the late 1970s, when home video decks began to become popular, live videos were actively released in the United States to promote their sales. James Taylor also rode this wave and filmed a live video in 1979, which was released as a VHS tape recorder titled "JAMES TAYLOR IN CONCERT" and later on laser disc. It was one of the standard live videos in his career, but since it was not released in Japan at the time, it was probably one of the videos that we overlooked. In addition, another live video called "IN CONCERT" was released in 1991, which was a bit confusing. Above all, this work, which was a standard live video of JT in the 1970s, was not released on DVD, and it is now difficult to see. However, this month, the full version of this live video was suddenly released for a limited time on JT's official account. Although several songs had been uploaded to YouTube by volunteers, it was groundbreaking that the entire live video was released at JT's initiative. The long-awaited classic live video footage for enthusiasts around the world was only available for a limited time, so it was no longer available to watch again, but it was released immediately. Not only is it a professional shot video footage, but the audio is also of course a stereo soundboard. In addition, HD uploads and 4K remasters are popular these days, but the natural resolution of the VHS we were familiar with at the time was about this level, and the natural video quality is rather appealing. And since the stage for the live video recording was the Blossom Music Center, JT made a nice arrangement to sing "Blossom" alone as the first song. After that, the rhythm section including Russ Kunkel and Lee Sklar, the guitar team of Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Wachtel, and virtuoso players such as David Sanborn gradually joined the stage, creating a gorgeous stage. The sound was a direct reflection of the AOR route that was on the latest album "FLAG" at the time, and for example, the classic songs of the past such as "Carolina In My Mind" were performed with a mellow band arrangement, which is typical of this period. Even though his forehead had started to grow, JT still had a mustache and looked dandy, while Kortchmar looked a little overweight, making the looks unique to this period a nostalgic memory. Until the middle of the show, the performance was relaxed with an AOR sound, but from "Mexico" the performance became more upbeat, as is typical for the end of a live show, and in the end, when they covered "Summertime Blues," JT transformed into a rock singer without playing the guitar, and even uttered some banned words (definitely on purpose lol). This is the best live video capturing JT when he was still young, so if you missed the limited-time release, please enjoy it with this title.
