Michael is super sharp! The Toronto performance from the Victory Tour, the only tour with Jermaine Jackson, has been remastered from the latest tape and recorded on Blu-ray! This is the definitive edition! The Victory Tour was a concert tour that the Jacksons performed in the United States and Canada from July to December 1984. Their father Joe returned to management, and Jermaine also moved to Arista and joined the Jacksons. Jackie was injured and was unable to participate, but this was the only tour with all six Jackson brothers. The group performed 55 concerts, attracting approximately 2.5 million spectators. Of the 55 performance locations, 53 were large stadiums. Most of the audience came to see the album ``Thriller,'' which was dominating the music world at the time, and since most of the songs on the set list were from the albums ``Thriller'' and ``Off Th Wall,'' many people thought that this was Michael's Thriller tour. Don King was in charge of promotion for this tour. The tour grossed approximately $75 million ($220 million in 23-year dollars), setting a new record for the highest grossing tour. However, behind the scenes were high ticket prices and a sales system that favored promoters, which resulted in numerous problems and lawsuits. Nevertheless, Michael held a press conference during the tour to request a fair and appropriate ticket sales system, and ticket prices were settled at a more normal price. Although it was advertised as a world tour, the tour was only held in the United States and Canada. During the concert, Michael's one-sided decorative glove, black sequin jacket, and moonwalking were revealed. The choreography was done by Paula Abdul, who was Jackie's then-lover after he was hit by his wife's car and injured his leg (so he was unable to participate). Although the focus was on Michael, the set list included songs from the Jacksons' albums Destiny and Triumph, and the tour was named after the Jacksons' album Victory. The final song, "Shake It Up," was a perfect fit for the tour, released four days before the tour's first show in Kansas City, but the timing was perfect. Other than Michael's ad-libbed "State of Shock" on "Body" ("State of Shock" was also rehearsed, but the song itself was never performed), no songs from "Victory" were performed on the tour. Jermaine also released the album "Dynamite" in April 1984, which was successful, reaching number one on the R&B charts, and from that album "Dynamite" ("You Like Me Don't You" was played in one set) and a duet with Michael, "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" were performed. Unfortunately, the performance of "Thriller" was not good and the atmosphere did not match, so Michael did not include it in the set list, but it was later performed regularly on Michael's solo tours. The opening begins with a story of a country that is about to be conquered by demons, in which Arthur, played by Randy Jackson, is able to pull out Excalibur, a holy sword that was stuck in a stone and could not be removed, defeating the creatures, founding a kingdom, and winning. The images are very vivid, and you will fall into the illusion of watching a science fiction movie. There is a slight disturbance in the image and sound, but it is minimal, and this quality is definitely groundbreaking. The first song is "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" from the album "Thriller". The members of the Jacksons incite the audience, and there is a different power and sense of speed from Michael's later tours. It flows thrillingly into "Things I Do For You" from "Destiny". Even in "Off The Wall", which is impossible not to dance, the performance is speedy, and Michael is singing while dancing with the microphone, and his breath is white. But he is not out of breath at all. Michael tries to sing "Ben" as his favorite song, but he interrupts, saying that it is a song that has always been loved, but times change, and now this song is this song, so he plays "Human Nature". Tito's guitar is impressive in "Heartbreak Hotel", a dance melody of melancholy. "She's Out Of My Life", which has a tremendous emotional impact, has a slightly bluesy arrangement, which is thought to be Tito's guitar. Here Michael leaves the stage once. Jermaine, who had been the only bassist and dancer in the band (he contributes much more to the live performance than to the album "Vicotry"), takes the stage to perform his own songs. Randy also shows off his multi-instrumental skills with his shoulder keyboard, and Tito's guitar is funky. Marlon plays the part sung by Stevie Wonder in a low voice. Jackie is not there due to injury, but you can enjoy the wonderful Jacksons other than Michael. The opening song from 1984, "Dynamite," is a danceable song that blends Prince's "Sexuality" and David Bowie's "China Girl," and it's great to see the live version. And "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" is a duet with Jermaine singing first, and then Michael comes on stage as if he's jumping out. Even in the Jackson 5 medley, Michael and Jermaine share vocals on "I'll Be There," which is the original, and it makes you tear up. Michael's scat singing after that was also very clear. They alternated between solo and group numbers such as "Rock With You" and "Lovely One", and in "Workin' Day & Night", Gregg Wright's guitar solo and Randy's percussion solo showed off the members' excellent performance techniques. After a stormy performance, Michael was laid on a bed by the monster, and the ceremony began, and he suddenly disappeared into the air. However, he appeared from another place, wearing a different costume to the "Beat It" version. Here too, Greg's guitar solo perfectly imitated Eddie Hazel, and the second time he played with such momentum that it seemed to surpass Eddie. Since there was no group dancing, the focus was on Michael, and his vocals and dance were youthful and sharp, making this his peak. The Jacksons' version of Michael's songs was much more powerful. The Jacksons' chorus of "Billie Jean" was soulful, and Michael danced and sang with confidence and enthusiasm. The moonwalk he does with his hat on is so cool. The Jacksons' breakout song "Shake Your Body" is a divine song that reaches a boiling point of excitement. The vocal lines of "State of Shock" and "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" also come from Michael. Like "Lovely One," it was written by Randy and Michael, and was a Jacksons song from a time when Jermaine was not there, but his bass is incredibly funky. It's kind of cute to see Michael watching Marlon's swaying dance and making a "whatever" face. If you were asked to choose one Jacksons' signature song, I'm sure many people would choose this song. According to Marlon, Michael refused to rehearse or play the songs from "Victory," and was not keen on joining the tour. It took persuasion from his mother, Katherine, and the fans to finally agree. Marlon also said that Michael only reluctantly joined the tour because his brothers needed the money. During the tour, tensions grew between Michael and his brothers, and at a concert on December 9th Michael announced that this would be their last time performing together, and the spring and summer '85 tours of Europe and Australia were cancelled. The Jacksons and Don King were still keen to make money from the tour; Michael donated his share to several charities, as he had promised before the tour. The rift between him and his brothers had a deep and lasting effect on the Jacksons, estranged them for much of his later years, and effectively ended the Jacksons, including Michael, as a live performing group. The Jacksons produced one more album in '89, but Michael and Marlon only appeared on one song, and apart from a concert in '01 celebrating Michael's 30th anniversary as a solo artist, the Jacksons never toured again during Michael's lifetime. The record-breaking Victory Tour was the highest grossing tour of '84. If they had continued to perform in Japan in 1985, there is a good chance that they would have surpassed Prince's Purple Rain tour and the highest-grossing Born in the U.S.A. tour by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (neither of them came to Japan). The legendary footage of Motown 25, where Michael participated as a member of the Jacksons and Jermaine also participated, is perfectly recorded on 1080P Blu-ray! The Jacksons are of course good, but this is Michael's solo performance of his new song "Billie Jean." This song really thrives with the dance. The moment Michael was finally recognized as a superstar by his first moonwalk. This is the footage that promises that "Thriller" will be a monster album.
