This two-hour recording features a performance at the Berkeley Jazz Festival in California on May 25, 1980, a high-quality audience master recording from the time. The band captivated the world with a world tour with V.S.O.P. at the end of the '70s, and then released the album "Monster," marking the start of the '80s and marking a transition to disco-funk. The recording features a newly discovered master tape, resulting in a superior sound quality throughout, and a longer recording time. The funky lineup, featuring Stanley Clarke on bass and Alphonse Mousone on drums, is complemented by Carlos Santana, with whom they performed at a jazz festival in Japan the following year. John Lucien's vocals evoke the cosmic, spiritual '70s, making him a perfect match for Santana. "Watermelon Man" features a funk-infused sound reminiscent of the Headhunters, while the Blue Note classic "Maiden Voyage" opens with a mellow solo piano and reveals a lyrical side. The closer, "Saturday Night" from "Monster," also features a noteworthy polemic. This rare collaboration delivers the unique groove of that era with the best quality. 14th Annual UC Berkeley Jazz Festival : at Greek Theater, Berkeley, CA USA May 25th 1980 / Audience Recording / 2025 Remaster DISC 1 : 1.
