Formed in 1975 by five members: Benny Maupin, Paul Jackson, Blackbird McKnight, Michael Clarke, and Bill Summers. The band's sound was funky and powerful, as they were independent from Herbie Hancock's backing band. The band rode the black funk boom of the 70s and gained explosive popularity with Herbie Hancock of the Headhunters. The band's 50th anniversary special tour began last year, and you can enjoy a live performance full of groove, recorded from the broadcast audio of their performance at the festival held in New Orleans on April 25, 2024.
